Her clothing is almost always made from leaves, instead of flowers — not because she really likes the colour green, but because leaves are a lot more plentiful all year round. [*]Personality: Inoe has the typical fairy curiosity and penchant for mischief. Maybe it can be chalked up to her immaturity, but she can be at times shockingly callous about the wellbeing of others. Especially so if she is the one inflicting the damage — while she is no sadist, a little collateral damage or a flesh wound wouldn’t kill her prank victims, right? The story’s very different for a fairy or a friend, of course. (Doesn’t mean they’re safe from a mild trick or two!) But when her sense of humour includes drugging and waterboarding a sleeping troll, some of her travelling companions have still gotten understandably queasy. Despite her childishness, Inoe is pretty sharp and knowledgeable, and quite proud of it. If only she would apply herself more often… [*]Brief Backstory: Inoe was raised in an agrarian society of fairies, perhaps the largest settlement in the forests of Estival — in terms of population, at least, though certainly not area. Stretching from the canopy of the treetops to networks of underground burrows, this densely-inhabited micro-metropolis is supported by hundreds of insect farms and carefully-maintained gardens. As a child, her free-range upbringing had its pros and cons. Schools and classrooms were foreign to her, but she had explored every nook and cranny of the forest city before she’d turned twelve. On the other hand, she also didn’t find out about the existence of other races until a chance encounter with a human woodcutter on one trip far beyond (in other words, a couple of miles out) the outskirts. Eventually, the shopkeepers stopped giving the adolescent Inoe freebies, and she rather reluctantly took on her first job at an apothecary. It would turn out to be the first of many, as Inoe hopped around like a headless cricket for some twenty years, too directionless to hold down a proper job or even a hobby for long. She never starved, but ‘just the bare minimum’ summed up her whole life until she turned forty. After being fired for the ninety-sixth time and losing interest in the venerable art of silkworm breeding, something in Inoe awoke, and she proceeded to go through a midlife crisis; as close as an ageless fairy can get to one, anyway. Being shunned and denied service throughout the community due to her reputation as a nuisance — even by fairy standards — may have been a contributing factor. The resulting search for purpose eventually drove her out of the familiar forests and into the big, big human-dominated city of Venne, where an enthusiastic guild recruiter introduced her to the world of adventuring. [*]Equipment: Fairy-sized anything is a rare sight outside of the little species’ own communities. Most of Inoe’s possessions are hence either brought from home or made by herself. Camping and survival gear makes up the majority of her load. For defense, She carries a few sets of the fairy’s classic armament: throwing knives, darts, and javelins. [*]Skills: Despite being classified as a Wand, four peaceful decades in a literal fairyland mean that more martial magics are generally beyond Inoe’s expertise. Magic to her is first and foremost a tool, not a weapon — that’s what blades and needles are for. This focus on utility and practical magic has made her quite the jack-of-all-trades, though in a fight she can still contribute less directly. Telekinesis may sound redundant for a mage who can already fly, but it comes in useful against opponents or obstacles. Watching someone go slip-and-slide will always be a classic gag, but making surfaces frictionless also serves as a less messy alternative to grease when the door gets squeaky. Minor illusions made for fine entertainment or prank material. Previous stints in various occupations and her adventuring experience so far have taught Inoe spells to conjure a web of sticky threads, to make even insomniacs fall asleep, and her guild parties’ favourite — a spell to create a small impenetrable dome for shelter in the wilderness or in dungeons. Inoe can also summon and dismiss Fala, her pigeon familiar, who more often than not serves as a mount or a scout. Although he can only communicate with his master via a mental connection, otherwise vocalising nothing but coos, he is an intelligent being. Besides magic, Inoe has dabbling ability in a wide variety of crafts and trades. Sewing, carving, sculpting, cooking, bookkeeping, chimney-sweeping… this is probably the only benefit of having worked a dozen different jobs, all within a year.
