Factions • The Vigilant of Stendard: With the looming vampire menace in Skyrim quelled, the Dawnguard have turned their attention to nearby Cyrodil and Morrowind. With the approval of Ulfric Stormcloak, the Vigilant of Stendarr have sent a single representative from High Rock to rebuild the Skyrim chapter of the order. A Nord himself, the new Keeper has rebuilt the old Hall of the Vigilant and revitalized their activity in Skyrim. A harsh type and suspicious of all magic, the Keeper has placed the College of Winterhold under Vigilant watch as well as regularly having court wizards and all known magic users investigated and watched closely. Rumors circulate of brutal methodologies and merciless interrogations of suspected Daedra worshippers and accused abominations. • The Thieves Guild: Despite the expulsion of the Imperials and her own ties to the Empire, Maven Black-Briar has retained her position in Riften. Albeit Stormcloak eyes are always on her family and her business, and her ties to the Thieves Guild are fraying because of this this. As a result the Guild’s wealth is slowly beginning to wilt again as their contacts in the major cities have cut ties or gone dark, and Stormcloak patrols have doubled in the canals of Riften as well as around the lake. While the guild hasn’t totally collapsed again, many believe this may come to be soon. • The Dark Brotherhood: After an assassination attempt on Ulfric Stormcloak was foiled a year ago, Ylva Gray-Watch set about smoking out and eliminating the Dark Brotherhood. Though their sanctuary was never found the Brotherhood lost many assassins to Gray-Watch. Their activities in Skyrim have dwindled heavily in the last year. • The College of Winterhold: Between the recent departure of the Archmage on an expedition and constant scrutiny by the Vigilant of Stendarr the College and it’s affiliates have taken a more isolated stance. Few mages journey beyond Winterhold and fewer students come to study. While the College’s doors remain open the xenophobia of the Stormcloak regime paired with the more militant chapter of the Vigilant dissuade large amounts of College business. • The Companions: The Companions of all the third parties in Skyrim have remained the most neutral. Vigmar Gray-Mane may be Jarl of Whiterun but Jorvaskr remains neutral to politics, serving as mercenaries, guardians, and upholders of honor. • The Bards College: When the Stormcloak regime established control, the college felt the hard squeeze of Ulfric’s iron fist. Headmaster Viarmo and all other non-Nords were forced from the college, aside from Geraud Gemane. He was granted the headmasters’ position due to his historical education and seniority. The College has effectively become a propaganda outlet for Ulfric as songs, poems, and epics are composed and performed to honor the current king while public speakers hold rallies and host parties among Skyrim’s elite to propagate Ulfric’s rhetoric.
Major Events/Happenings (To he factored in amid the opening of the RP.) • Forsworn War: Since after the crowning of Ulfric Stormcloak the Forsworn have doubled their activity and attacks. Their own king, Madanoch, has rallied the Reachmen into more organized bands that harass trade, attack mines and other settlements, and have made several assaults on Stormcloak outposts. Fort Sungard itself fell last winter to Madanoch’s men. Commander Ralof was sent to reclaim the fort and since doing so has doubled down hard on the Forsworn. Travelers often come upon sites of skirmishes, from small battlefields to scorched checkpoints and burning palisades. Markarth itself has become a den of violence and hate between Breton-blooded natives and Nords. A curfew has been established and spies of both the Forsworn and Stormcloaks prowl the shadows. • Displacement of non-Nords: In the early days of the new leadership many suspected a total displacement or worse genocide of mer, non-Nord humans, and Khajit and Argonians. Aside from the Dunmer and Argonians of Windhelm being forced into “indentured societal servitude”, little was initially done aside from various highly positioned mer folk being cast down from their positions. However mere weeks ago a pair of Thalmor agents - a Bosmer and a Khajit - were caught having infiltrated the palace in Solitude as servants. Plotting an assassination on Spymaster Ylva Gray-Watch. This has lead to a number of harsh authoritarian policies by the Jarls across Skyrim that has seen unfairness and even mistreatment and imprisonment of non-Nords. • Encroachment on Orsimer Strongholds: The native tribal Orcs are feeling the pressure from the crown, particularity as mining and land clearance is on the rise across the realm. Though there has been no instances of violence, but representatives from Windhelm continue to approach and heckle the Orcs for their lands, even when threatened. Many believe a coming struggle with the Orcs is just over the horizon. • Negotiations Over Solstheim: Seeking to reclaim the northern island territory of Solstheim for Skyrim, Ulfric Stormcloak has put Jarl Elisif in charge of negotiations with House Redoran for potential purchase or trade for Solstheim. Though negotiations have remained stale for months. • Falkreath Incarcerations: Dengeir of Stuhn, Jarl of Falkreath, has recently had numerous people in Falkreath imprisoned under charges of allegedly being Imperial spies. Many long time locals to Falkreath have even faced his eyre in some form, be it midnight raids on their homes or interrogation over letters or texts received.
