Five years ago, the Alvadian Empire toppled. For all their might, their powerful weapons, the madness and arrogance of Emperor Xander Eraphus Alvadius was ultimately their undoing. Their war of conquest finally ended when defectors from the Alvadian military joined with Embria’s forces and mounted an assault that pierced the Alvadian capital and assassinated the Emperor. The Alvadian war machine collapsed, and those who had defected soon became the new leaders of the reformed Republic of Alvad. A treaty, to make for a brighter and less violent future, as formed between Alvad, Embria, and the empire’s former conquests. It was seen as a symbol of the willingness to work for peace, to secure a world in which such a devastating war could never again take place. However, the ashes of warfare do not fade so easily. Five years since the end of the war, and tensions remain between Alvad and Embria. There are those in Embria who believe that Alvad was not punished thoroughly enough for their attempted subjugation, and those in Alvad who believe that gave up far too much in the aftermath of the war. A strong sympathy for the fallen empire still lingers in some of Alvad’s people, and although the current Minister of the Republic of Alvad has attempted to dissuade such sentiments only time will tell if her measures will be a success. The scars of war were rent deep into the surface of Theia. Swathes of land were radically altered by the fighting, and by the reckless use of devastating war machines. Former research installations, wartime technology, magical experiments, and monstrous creatures created for war roam these locations. The results of such a devastating conflict, they have been collectively named Ashes, as they are indeed the ashes left behind after a war. And it is because of these ashes that mercenary organizations have flourished in the wake of the war. Travelling into locations scarred by battle to recover technology and magical experiments, eliminate monsters, escort researchers, defend lumo crystal mining operations, or disable militant groups seeking to spark conflict, all these purposes have given mercenaries a lucrative career in the aftermath of the Alvadian Empire’s attempted conquests. Additionally, the escorting of diplomats in politically sensitive situations, or operating less then legally in territories that have been strictly demilitarized… Mercenaries have extensive job opportunities in the post-war world. Many mercenary companies were formed by former soldiers, who had spent so much of their lives fighting that they struggled to do anything else. Among these mercenary organizations is Wild Rose. It is not the largest organization, not does it have the most skilled mercenaries out of all of them. But, operating from the edge of Embrian territory, they are highly willing to travel all across the wartorn regions to locate valuable technology and exterminate monsters or militant groups. And it just so happens that they have been hired for a rather interesting new job, putting some of their newly-acquired soldiers of fortune to the test…
The World of Theia is still recovering from the devastating conquest attempted by the fallen Alvadian Empire. Eight years later, the scars left behind remain fresh. And yet, in other ways, the world flourishes.

Alvad: The former Alvadian Empire, a country to the west. Known for a highly militarized culture and an emphasis placed on honor, it was for these reasons that it became easy for the Emperor to incite his people to war. Possessing powerful magitech, the Alvadian War Machine seemed unstoppable for many years. During this time, they performed numerous highly secretive experiments to bolster their power even further. Towards the end of the war, however, a large division of the Alvadian Armed Forces defected and assisted Embria, leading to the fall of the Empire. Today, it has reorganized as the Republic of Alvad, but tensions still remain.
Embria: A country to the east. One of the last to be able to resist the Alvadian war machine, it was never conquered by the Empire. But it faced many devastating attacks during the war, and the scars have yet to heal. Known for its excellent airships and pilots, Embria has made strides to reconnect the world after the war. But in spite of the treaty signed with Alvad, many citizens of Embria still feel as if the former Empire has not been punished enough.
Lumo Crystals: A natural substance occurring as large, colorful crystals growing beneath the surface of Theia, though in some places they are large enough to be visible aboveground. In spite of being mineral in composition, they grow much like plants. For this purpose, places where Lumo crystals occur are known as Gardens. Lumo Crystals are a potent source of magic, the larger the crystal the more powerful, and thus they are mined for the purpose of creating Lumium. The largest and most expansive gardens are safeguarded by ethereal, child-like female spirits that possess potent magical capabilities of their own. Making deals with them to allow for safe mining is part of the lumo crystal mining business. Some in the business would vey much like to bypass this process.
Lumium: A type of fuel created by liquifying Lumo crystals. Utilized to power many forms of magitech, lumium use is incredibly widespread, which in turn sustains a large lumo crystal mining industry. Lumium is even a compotent of ethers, allowing an individual to recharge their magical energy by drinking a diluted solution of the liquified crystal.
Spirits: A variety of entities possessing great magical power. Some are Servants of the gods, other may even be gods themselves. Most possess capabilities far behind even the most potent human practitioner of magic, and thus were of special interest to Alvadian scientists during the war. Traditionally contracted by summoners, it is said that Alvadian scientists performed numerous experiments in an attempt to bypass this process completely. It is likely that some monsters roaming the world today are a product of these experiments.
Ashes: A collective term for that which has been left behind by the war. Wartime technology, genetically engineered monsters, magical experiments, all these and more are defined as Ashes. Due to the dangers they pose, or their value, Ashes are often a target of mercenary activity.

So just a couple things: I’d like to have no more then six players in the RP. Any more will be difficult to handle as a single party. I will be enforcing a weekly posting schedule. If you cannot post one week, please inform me and I can give an extension of up to an additional week. Otherwise, posts at least once a week are preferred. Naturally, I don’t want anyone starting out with anything too intense for the early game of the RP. No -aga level spells, for example. The setting is fairly modern, so feel free to utilize a variety of magitech, guns, and other unusual weaponry if you so choose.
