John glared and stood up, his eyes glowing darkly. “Don’t you dare call her that. She’s a breathing person, Manny. She’s under my protection and you and anyone else wants to mess with her, you deal with me. Am I understood?” He felt the weakness hit him but he paused it back, not letting himself be overpowered to make sure Kay is safe. 

Serena lowered her head and then nodded and got up again. She clapped her hands together and muttered the spell again. The shadows wrapped around them and they vanished. They reappeared outside the mill house and Serena swayed them her legs buckled, falling backward.
