I was actually going to ask, would we be playing as individuals or as mercenary companies? To use Total War Warhammer as an example, are we playing as Heroes or Regiments of Renown? Also might be a bit early, but could you tell anything more about the setting like magic and level of grimdark?
It's about as Grimdark as your average warhammer fantasy novel, and it's individual characters, not companies. It's the player's choice on if they want to be 'official' mercenaries or just thugs and thieves for hire. To those whom I accept into the RP, I'd suggest they expect somewhere in the realm between Warhammer, Conan, and Greyhawk. The magic is 'moderate.' As in, it's a step above low magic settings like ASOIAF or LOTR, but it's not near any D&D settings other than 1st edition where a level 1 wizard had a hard time fighting anything above a rat. Magic is for the curious or the slightly crazy, but it's rare in human society other than certified guilds, apostates, or particular scholars of old lore. Essentially, if you spend enough years of practice with the right material, you can cast a spell or two eventually by calling forth the subcreation of reality. However, you're liable to kill yourself without the proper precautions. To be a 'wizard' is based on a many year mentorship and a good (or bad) bloodline, and depending on the area you're either seen as someone of great standing, inducted into a guild forcefully, or chased out of town. The latter two are the most likely.
