Esme Stirling
Esme woke with a jump from her catnap. Those horrific images had yet again disturbed her sleep. Sighing heavily and still feeling exhausted, she sat up with a yawn and stretched, then positioned herself behind the wheel of her beloved car. Placing her key into the ignition, she gave it a turn, and the car roared to life. She then pulled out onto the road, not really knowing where she was headed at that moment. Reaching for the radio, she turned up the volume, hoping the loud music would keep her awake for a while and get her thinking of other things. The current song playing was fading, and a good one too. It wasn’t long before the next song started, Here I Go Again by White Snake. It caused her to sigh heavily, but she sang along. She felt she could relate to the words in a way, but that could be because she had been alone for so long. Esme missed the interactions with others. She craved it. The small interactions here and there weren’t enough, but in times like these it was hard to find someone you could really trust. She had thought of getting a dog, but her living situation really wasn’t suitable for one. So, here she was spending most of her days alone, taking out things of nightmares and pretty much living in her car. During her long trips, she often wondered if she’d ever come across other hunters that would want her help, since in the past it hadn’t quite worked out. Then again, she had sadly become used to doing things on her own and knew that one day she would come across a hunt that could be her last. Esme slapped herself. The loud music wasn’t working as it normally did. She had still gotten lost in her thoughts. Perhaps it was because she felt more exhausted than she ever had. It looked as if she was going to have to find a motel after all and knock herself out with sleeping meds to get a somewhat decent sleep. Even with that, it was hard to get a decent sleep. Finally, after what seemed a long while, she came across a motel. It looked pretty shoddy and not a place she’d normally stop, but her exhaustion was overtaking her, making her give in. Pulling in, she parked, then ran in to get a room for the night. With a room key in hand, she hopped into her car and drove to the other side of the place, then parked in front of her room. Killing the engine, she got out and walked to the trunk, popped it open and pulled out her bag, and slung it over her shoulder. Esme closed the trunk and walked back to the driver's door, closing it after making sure she locked it. Then she headed to her room.
