He speaks and moves quickly, never sitting still for any amount of time. Even when in his MAS, he’s shifting slightly here and there, as if he believes that he’ll die once he stops moving. He talks with his hands as much as with his mouth, gesturing to emphasize his words or his overall story. He has a deep fear of being paralyzed, and an even deeper fear of being buried alive. After surviving the worst the Free Enterprise Zone has to offer and pulling from the worst darkness his own emotions could drown him in, he has a great appreciation of life and little time to not enjoy it as much as possible. He is often laughing and almost constantly smiling. With a laid back, easy going attitude, Gansu is capable of taking most things in stride and adapting very quickly to any situation he finds himself in. Pride means little to him and he is not above a healthy dose of self-deprecation. Tying in with his appreciation of life, Gansu often gives gifts to his fellow team members. Usually cheap trinkets, but something nonetheless that he believes that they would enjoy. Gansu in particular takes great joy in making things explode, and in setting things on fire. A self-described Pyromaniac, he gets immense satisfaction from watching things burn and be destroyed. While it is rare to find a situation that can put a dent in Gansu’s seemingly unending good humor and easy-going attitude, he is not so carefree as to be rude or a liability. He knows when to focus and when to be silent, taking his job in the 101st very seriously. A superstitious man, Gansu has a multitude of trinkets on him and in his MAS that he believes bring him good luck and protect him from the worst case scenarios. As with all superstitions, any attempt to disprove the powers of these trinkets will only result in a circular argument with him. Gansu is deeply loyal to the UEE, to the point of blindly defending their faults and mistakes. They took him out of poverty, pulled him from a dark path, and gave him a reason to live, and for that they can do no wrong in his eyes. Gansu takes a poor view of almost all criminal activity (be it something as relatively innocent as saying you want a water and filling your cup with a soda, or a serious crime) and it is one of the few things that can genuinely anger him. Personal Record: Gansu was born into the Free Enterprise Zone, on the planet of Garaan. As the planet was almost yearly changing hands between the Coalition and the UEE. Neither side is willing to let the other have it (due to the mineral rich mountains that dominate most of the planet) but neither can justify putting enough resources to keep it. As such,Garaan is a planet rife with extreme poverty, unchecked corruption, and rampant crime. Any civilian administrator that has been in their position throughout regime changes has only done so by being willing to do anything to keep power. In a twisted way these administrators who change their loyalties and their policies on a dime, depending on who is in charge of the planet, offer the only form of stability that Garaan has and prevent the entire planet from falling into complete anarchy. Gansu doesn’t know who his father is. Anytime he’d ask his mother, she would react with a great deal of anger and tell him to forget about it entirely. Soon, Gansu learned not to press the issue at all. Deeply in debt and barely keeping a roof above their heads and food in their mouths, Gansu’s mother was working herself into the ground. The vast majority of his memories of her are on her way out or as she came in to get some small semblance of sleep, just a hurried expression as she runs by or drops him off with yet another distant relative or acquaintance, or an exhausted, blank, face shuffling by. What memories he does have of prolonged interaction aren’t good. Anger at him for bringing up his father, for not doing well in what passed for a school on Garaan, taking out her anger at the ‘protection’ racket she had to pay the local gang (The Tri-suns) simply for them to live in their rundown hovel, or for the simple fact that he existed. He has no happy memories of his mother, but she was still his mother and when she died it crushed him. He was 12, and she had been the one constant in his life as hostile as that constant had been. From what little he was able to find out, she had been late on her ‘protection’ for too long. Gansu would spend the next 5 years enveloped with an all consuming need for revenge. Leaving his hovel and the neighborhood run by the gang that killed his mother, he quickly fell in with a rival gang of the Tri-suns, the G-88s. The gang offered protection, a sense of family, and most importantly a chance at revenge for the murder of his mother. They promised him that when they went for the Tri-Suns, he would be the first allowed to take a shot at them. In the meantime, he did whatever the 88s asked of him. Murder, drug running, theft, assault, arson, any and all crimes he was asked to do he did. He loathed every minute of it. But it was what he needed to do to survive, and to avenge his mother. After 5 long years, the go-ahead finally came from the 88s leaders to move in on Tri-Sun territory and eliminate them once and for all. For the first time in a long time, Gansu smiled. It wasn’t as much of a fight as he had thought it’d be. Apparently, in the 4 years since his absence the Tri-Suns power had waned considerably. Gansu and his fellow 88s were able to move in and kill the people who had been the object of his hatred for so long with little difficulty. The Tri-Suns had neither the numbers nor the gear to stop the G-88s and it was more a massacre than a battle. By the end of the month all of the Tri-Suns were either dead or had abandoned their loyalty and fled. Instead of the relief and peace he thought all the blood would have brought, Gansu felt only angrier. These were the people who had killed his mother? These weaklings were the ones who had murdered a tired woman for what meager money she had scraped together? Pathetic. He shouldn’t be surprised, or even phased by it, and yet he was. With nothing left to work towards, and his own anger still boiling inside of him with nothing to target, Gansu fell into an autopilot. He did whatever the G-88s asked of him, with no hesitation or remorse. Truth be told, during that month after the Tri-Suns were destroyed he has no real recollection of what he did or what happened. Gansu didn’t have long to consider his lack of peace and purpose. A new crime family was sweeping through Garaan. The Turnoi Family was much better armed, much larger, and had much deeper pockets than any organized crime on Garaan and they were shaking up the already shaky foundations of stability that crime and corruption formed on the planet. Their demands were simple; Surrender and be absorbed into the family, or fight and be crushed under its heel. The G-88s, proud as they were, chose to fight. It was, ironically, an even sadder excuse for a fight than the Tri-Suns put up. Gansu and his fellow 88s were outnumbered, outgunned, and completely out matched. In two weeks the Turnois had pushed the 88s back to their home neighborhood, and in three they would eradicate the entire gang. Gansu himself only escaped via a twist of fate. He jerked back at the last second as a knife attempted to cut through his eye, and fell into a river going through the town. When he next awoke he had been pulled out by a local family, and patched back together as best they could. He knew that he had to leave as soon as possible. The Turnois would be searching for any survivors, and they weren’t the type to give second chances. As soon as he was strong enough, he thanked the family with all the money he had on him and headed for the local UEE recruiting branch. The Turnoi family wouldn’t be able to get him if he was fighting some war off planet. At the age of 17, Gansu was recruited by the UEE infantry and taken off of the only home he had ever known. The training process broke him. It ground down the anger, that fire that had driven him for so long to lash out just to survive, and focused it into a fine disciplined point. It shattered the sneering bitterness and ingrained hostility that had become his personality. It instilled a sense of morals that had long since been forgotten and would not let him let it go. Honestly, Gansu is not sure how he even survived training, much less successfully passed it. But pass it he did, and he soon became a demolitions expert for the UEE infantry. Those three years fighting as a grunt on the front lines were the happiest he had been. The sense of family was genuine this time, not built around a mutual need to survive and a willingness to betray one another at the drop of hat. There was a goal that they were working towards, and it wasn’t just for petty power or cruelty. Gansu proved himself a capable soldier and demolitionist, able to think outside of the box and on his feet. Due to his merit, he was marked for promotion to a MAS unit. There, he excelled. While Gansu was not the only pilot in his unit, he was the best and the one most often piloting their MAS. In a year, he was recommended for the 101st. For the last four years he’s been thriving as a MAS pilot for the 101st. He’s been in many battles, few of note, and only joined the 7th squadron after his own squadron was severely depleted during the Siege of Cerol. Equipment: -Pistol and combat knife. -A datapad on explosives and how to make them (clearly well read). -Dozens of small trinkets that are said to bring good luck. -A lighter. Beliefs: Gansu's beliefs are fairly straight foward. He believes that whenever someone dies, their spirit stays in the same area that they died in. If you died in a city, your spirit stays in that city for eternity. If you died in space, your spirit stays in space forever. These spirits can be designated into three categories: Neutral, Benevolent, and Malevolent. Neutral spirits make up the vast majority of spirits. They simply exist where they died, experiencing things around them as they go about their eternal afterlife. Benevolent spirits are rare. They are spirits that aren't embittered by their deaths, and aren't content to simply experience and witness the goings on around them. When a cool breeze hits you on a sweltering day, your car stops just in time to avoid a crash, the rain stops before you go out without a jacket or an umbrella, those are all benevolent spirits influencing the world around you. Malevolent spirits, are spirits that are embittered by their deaths. Maybe they died too soon, have unfinished business, or died in an unjust manner. They are miserable and feel the need to make the living as miserable as they are. When your A\C breaks down on a hot day, your car slides that extra inch to hit something despite you breaking, you trip on a shoelace that used to be tied. Those are all malevolent spirits influencing the world to make you feel as they do. To appease malevolent spirits to ignore you, thank benevolent spirits for helping you, and entice neutral spirits to aid you, you can make sacrifices to the spirits. Normally food or drink that they can no longer experience themselves. This endears the spirits to you, and they are less likely to harm you and more likely to help you. Chassis: Heavy Description: The TTN-001, nicknamed Titan, is heavily inspired by UEE’s encounters with the Coalition's Hardballer. Designed to fill a more generalized role than the Coalition's ship killer, the Titan is built to take a truly massive amount of punishment and dish it back tenfold in any situation it might find itself in. Medium to long range fire support is where it shine’s, able to unleash the full power of its Autocannons and missiles from a comfortable distance away and pinpoint high value targets to aim its Plasma Cannon at. Perhaps the slowest MAS in the entirety of the UEE, the Titan is almost never deployed without an escort of faster MAS to protect it from the inevitable attention it’s devastating Plasma Cannon draws. Enemy MAS would have no problem, once they were close enough, tearing the Titan apart bit by bit as they could move faster than the Titan could train its guns. As a member of the 101st, Gansu’s Titan (which he has named Hyperion) comes equipped with more powerful weaponry than the standard TTN-001, particularly noticeable in his HPK mingun, and heavier armor than its counterparts. Systems: X34 Plasma Cannon(Superheavy): Typically seen on warships, the X34 Plasma Cannon is a ship killer. Normally resting against the Titan’s back, the X34 arches over the MAS’ head when put into firing mode, its windup being signalled by a vibrant glow throughout the weapon. While absolutely devastating to nearly everything in its path, the Titan’s slow movement and the windup time make hitting MAS targets that are actively dodging a difficult proposition. MHK 75mm Heavy Autocannon (Heavy): The Titan’s bread and butter. With four cannons attached to either arm, the MHK is the primary weapon that the Titan uses in fire support. The MHK fires 75mm rounds at 500 rounds per minute, capable of ripping through most MAS. A 2000 shell drum is attached to the Titan’s back, to ensure that it can keep firing through long engagements. AAKD-2E Smart Attack Missile System (SAM) (Primary): Whenever enemy MAS start getting too close for comfort, the Titan relies on its SAMS to keep them at bay. It is attached to the Titan’s right shoulder. Carrying two SAMs loaded, with an additional 4 held in the MAS ready, a SAM is capable of accurately tracking and pursuing most MAS. They are designed exclusively for MAS combat, and are capable of penetrating through layers of armor. HK-45 Minigun (Primary): Used primarily as a way of suppression against enemy MAS the High-Kinetic 45 minigun appears over the right shoulder of the Titan when used. Firing at 2000 rounds per minute, with a 1000 round drum, it is a potent weapon. X95 'Tortoise’ Alloy Shield(Secondary): Mounted on each arm, the Tortoise was specifically designed for the Titan. In the likely event that the Titan cannot dodge an enemy attack, it can bring its shields forward and interlock them; creating a shell that can allow the Titan to weather attacks. With anti-beam coating applied, the Tortoise shields can even withstand some plasma weapons. IRD-72 ‘Cyclops’ Drone Swarm (Secondary): Deployed from a container on the Titan’s back, the Cyclopes swarm is controlled by a VI program with one directive: Protect the Titan. This is done through the laser weapon built into the core of the Cyclops body, allowing it to attack infantry, intercept missiles, and provide very limited attacks on MAS. Type-09 Juggernaut plating (Utility): The Titan’s considerable armor has been made even more potent by the addition of enhanced plating layered all over the essential systems. At the cost of mobility and shields other MAS rely on, the Titan can take hits that would destroy other MAS. MK 3 Ares Engine Upgrade (Utility): A significant upgrade the Titan’s engine provides the mech the ability to mount a Heavy weapons system. The Titan is extremely sluggish compared to other MAS, but capable of unleashing a truly devastating amount of fire. Stability Clamps (Utility): Clamps attached to the bottom of the Titan’s feet that allow it to anchor onto nearly any surface. Extremely helpful when firing its Plasma weapon.
