Familiarity isn't required, although I did include a link to the wikipedia page the purpose of making important information available, and [@RedXIII] shared a video that is good, as well. familiarizing yourself with this property isn't required, but it would be beneficial for prospective players.

Regarding the question of "can I play a giant", my answer is no. I made it clear in the OP that the player characters will be the survivors of the crash.
