Or perhaps it was more accurate to say that the world was white. Rafael couldn't see any walls or any ceilings. It was just a colorless void in which he stood. "H-hello?" he stammered, calling out to anyone or anything that could possibly hear him. "Where is this? Where am I?" His questions went unanswered. Slowly, subtly, the bright whiteness of the world began to dim. "This is super weird...!" he stated with an upward inflection. Darker and darker the world grew. Then, in the distance, he saw something. A silhouette of sorts. Small, almost oval with what appeared to be slight appendages. It began moving toward him. Slowly, at first, and then with an eager speed. "Holy shit, yo! Stay the fuck back or I swear to God, I will-" Suddenly the lights were out. The world was just blackness. The silence was deafening. "Yooo!" Rafael shouted. "This is bullshit! YooOOoo!" His skin felt a shift in the air as if there was a displacement of mass. As if something or someone stood close. He could see nothing, but he could feel it. He was afraid to move, afraid to breathe. In the darkness, two orbs began to illuminate. Within them were multicolored rings and swirls that encircled little black holes. These weren't orbs... These were... "Get the hell away from me!" Rafael shouted, his heart beating louder than a drum. The eyes in the darkness finally saw fit to respond. The single syllable reverberated in his cranium, sending him into a fit of vertigo: "WEH!"
Rafael sat up in a cold sweat. He tried to scream, but his throat was parched. Instead, he let out a distressed wheeze as he shielded his face with his arms from any would-be attackers. Slowly he began returning to reality. It was a dream, he assured himself. Just a weird, fucked up dream. His head was pounding. The bender last night was the culprit, no doubt. Rafael took in a deep breath before exhaling slowly, trying to calm himself and find his center. Shortly after, he managed to pop some Advil, drink a glass of water, shower, and finally throw some clothes on himself. He moved quickly through the apartment and out the front door. There was plenty he needed to get done today but, at the forefront of his mind, was to get an understanding of his new abilities. He also needed to at least attempt to make amends with Dave. And it seemed like there was something else he was forgetting. What all did he even do last night? He paused for a moment to consider, but all he could recall was going out for drinks, getting wasted, and then something to do with a Zebra...
