Aware of how many in this world view Changelings, her mother took on a human persona and encouraged her young daughter to do the same. Unfortunately, though, Clo’s mother died when she was very young and never truly came to comprehend why she needed to hide her true self. Now alone and living on the streets of Calimport, Clo did what she had to in order to survive. She didn’t adopt a persona, like her mother did, but instead constantly masked her face for short times. It was this constant change that eventually led her to be caught. When she was merely eight years old she had been running from the guards after being spotted stealing a cute little toy. She ran down an ally and quickly changed her mask, but she failed to notice the man that was also in the ally with her. He easily snatched her up and, before she truly knew what was happening, she was being sold to a fairly wealthy pasha. She spent the next ten years as this pasha’s prized pet, learning how to sing, dance, and play music. While she was better off than a lot of the other slaves, she still wasn’t treated wonderfully. If she failed to please the pasha with her performance then she was beaten. If she spoke out of turn, she was beaten. If she attempted to change her face without permission, a spell would alert those in charge and she was beaten. Poor Clo has many scars to remember these days by. While enslaved, Clo came to grow close to another slave who was naturally gifted in magic. They often plotted ways to get away from the pasha, but never did they truly act on any of the plans. At least not until her friend discovered a way to dispel the spell placed on Clo. In the dead of night they enacted their plan. Her friend successfully got rid of the curse and they were well on their way out, but an unexpected guard was right in their path and heading right towards where they were hiding. Before long he would be upon them and their plan would fail. Clo was desperately trying to come up with a plan, but her friend knew there was no time. With a smile and kiss on Clo’s cheek, they sacrificed themselves so Clo could escape instead. It was then that Clo swore to return some day and free her friend from the pasha in order to pay them back for their sacrifice. Before that could happen, however, Clo needed to get out of the city. It was then that she finally understood why her mother took on a persona and decided to do the same. She now lived in the persona of the human woman Sira Hezrihd. She needed employment and a way out of this port town so naturally she made her way to the docks. She tried several ships at first, but all turned her away. Was she too timid? How was she to convince one of these captains to bring her on board when all she had to provide was entertainment? She thought back to some of the other slaves and concubines, remembering some were able to get special treatment from guards. They would give those guards bewitching grins, a flirtatious touch here and there, they would manipulate them. Some got caught and it ended badly, but others it worked well for. Clo decided that perhaps Sira was capable of manipulation as well. So with a new swagger to her step and flirtatious smirk on her face, she went on to the next ship. Soon she found herself employed on the Golden Rose. She wasn’t expecting the ship to actually end up being a pirate ship, but this pirate ship was out to free slaves. It seemed they mostly targeted slavers and this fact caused Sira to become invested in the ship and its crew. She also wasn’t expecting to fall head-over-heels for the captain, Reynard Anderton. The feelings seemed to be reciprocated and they soon became lovers. He also would begin mentoring her. He was strict and unforgiving, claiming he was trying to help her be the best she could be. He once broke her right hand, claiming he only did it so she could strengthen the skill in her left hand. This wasn’t the first time he’d harm her, it would be a recurring ordeal. Cunning, manipulative, and possessive, he succeeded in confusing Sira. Was it normal for someone who claimed to love you to hurt you so? Sira fought an internal battle daily on whether she should leave or stay. It wasn’t until she found that Reynard wasn’t actually freeing the slaves, but instead selling them himself. Many of the crew were unaware of this as well and upon discovering it, Sira became enraged. She and other crew members plotted together while she continued to appear as her loyal self to Reynard. Finally they struck and their plan of mutiny succeeded. When Reynard realized he would lose, he attempted to manipulate Sira once more. Unfortunately for him, Sira was beginning to understand that he was no better than the man who she was once enslaved to. In fact, she would venture to say he was worse. So, with a smirk on her face, she plunged a sword through his chest. Sira and her crewmates had successfully taken over the ship and they rid the ship of those that knew of the reselling of the slaves. What Sira wasn’t expecting was the crew to name her as the new captain. She accepted the position and spent the next three years as captain of the Golden Rose. She now believes it is time to make good on her promise and has left the Golden Rose in the care of her first mate after they have sailed back to Calimport. While she has acquired some wealth while raiding the seas, she still feels like she needs more in order to free her friend. So she’s decided to make her way to the estate of Jakeem Kalil, as she has heard he is in need of adventurers to embark on an expedition.

What Are You Like?...

Brazen, capable, vivacious, these are all words that seem to describe Sira. She seems to have a confidence about her that can almost come off as arrogance. She’s got a charismatic air that surrounds her and always seems to know what to say. She’s skilled at reading people and telling them exactly what they want to hear. When in sticky situations she can often talk her way out of things, but if that fails she certainly has the ability to fight her way out of most situations. When it comes to working in a group she often plays well with others. While not quick to trust others, she’s not naive enough to let that stop her from working together in order to get a job done. She has walls built up that make it hard for her to grow close to others, but on rare occasions she’ll let those walls fall. Once she has grown close to someone she will be fiercely loyal and protect them to the best of her ability. She often wears a smirk on her face and she isn’t above giving a flirtatious glance, especially if it will likely get her something in return. Manipulation seems to be a favored tactic of hers and she’s rather skilled at it. Some of those with a more lawful alignment may find issue in her tactics, but she’ll brush them off exclaiming, “I got what we needed, didn’t I?” Unfortunately she seems to have a bit of a temper and will lash out with words, but it’s when she becomes incredibly quiet that you really have to worry. When she’s fallen so silent it likely means she is contemplating exactly how she’s going to murder you and cover her tracks. Sira seems to have a hard time with trusting authority and isn’t fond of following orders, but she will adapt and be flexible if it fits the situation. She’s likely to let you know she isn’t happy she’s following the orders she was given, but if it advances her own agenda then she’ll comply. She often follows her own rules and whims, believing that’s the only way one can truly be free. She had to follow the rules of someone else once before and it resulted in lots of pain and trauma, now she lives for herself and those she cares for.

What Are Your Skills?...

Weapons & Armor:

Moon-Touched Cutlass When Sira speaks the command word this blade will give off soft light. She can also move silently and does well at keeping hidden in order to eavesdrop on opponents. She’s spent enough time with the seedy types of this world and has learned thieves’ cant. Sira is skilled in fancy footwork and can easily strike an opponent then slip away from them without any reprisal. She has an easier time than most people dodging attacks and evading spells as long as she can see the creature that is attacking her. She can be rather beguiling and often in a fight she can use that panache to distract a foe. She can sometimes even convince the enemy that she’s actually a friend of theirs and make them think twice about attacking her. She is very skilled in acrobatics. Sira is exceptionally skilled at picking up subtle noises and can often pinpoint where an enemy is hiding. On some occasions she can even determine where an invisible creature is. Sira can shift her appearance thanks to her Changeling heritage. She can become slightly taller or shorter, shift into any race that is of similar size to her, and can even shapechange into a man or a woman. She can only shapechange into something from her imagination or into a person she’s actually seen and been able to study the details of. Her voice will even change to mimic that of whoever she decides. She has a silver tongue and does well with persuading and deceiving people. Sometimes she can even intimidate a person, but she would much rather go the route of persuasion or deception.
