Posting Frequency:
Some of us can obsessively post every day, while others don’t have the luxury. While we encourage all members to post frequently, we’ll begin with a minimum rate of 1 post every 3 days.
Post length/quality:
The more you bring to the party, the more others are inspired to interact with you. We suggest a 2 paragraph minimum per post. While we encourage our writers to check spelling and grammar, this is Firefly. Sometimes, words just don’t go right… Use your best judgment.
A few thoughts on creating characters:
The Firefly ‘verse contains no alien life forms. Unless you want to portray the ship’s dog, cat, or goldfish, plan on writing a human being. Humans are great! They can have more than one skill, and plenty of interests. Capt. Cal is likely to hire a pilot who can handle themselves in a dustup or a gunfight, as well as being able to whip up a mean pot of beans and rice. Humans are also messy, insecure, neurotic, and prone to mistakes. You think you’re weird? Lemme tell ya… If you’re a super soldier/kung fu master/neurosurgeon who is impervious to pain and has never suffered a loss, there are plenty of other games for that character type. Yonder’s the door.
Looking for inspiration?
We suggest the following: “Firefly” TV series…14 episodes of awesome. “Serenity” feature film…picks up where the series left off. There’s also a decent series of graphic novels and a Firefly RPG kit out there. Nice, but not necessary. For a deeper dive: Western films. Some of our favorites include ‘Tombstone,’ ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’ ‘The Magnificent Seven’ (I like the Denzel Washington version). It’s a long list. What’s your favorite? American history from post Civil War to 1900. Sounds like a powerful lot, don’t it? The Firefly plot was created with all those inspirations in mind, but they never got the chance to build on that foundation. What that leaves us is a mighty big ‘verse with a wealth of character and story types to play out.
