He thought maybe, he was losing his mind, as it does come and go. But for a moment, he swore it was a woman's voice yelling something he couldn't make out. He looked towards the setting sun, it would be down soon, and they would come. As he turned away to head home, something pulled at him, something in his gut said "Go back". Shaking his head from side to side, "No, I ain't gonna." He started to take another step, and once again, his gut told him to go back. "Damnit!" The crazed man hefted his makeshift rebar spear in his hand, and hurried towards the sounds. As he got closer, he could hear the name, "Ella" from the frightened screaming woman. He sniffed the air, and smelled water, must be close to the river. Stopping momentarily, he lit the old Coleman lantern. The light would surely give him away, but what choice did he have, after all it was getting dark. Plus, he would rather see where and what he was walking into. The Voice sounded closer, so he took cover among some bushes, slowly he crept along, shielding the lanterns light with a branch of thick leaves, as best as he could.
