He has curly white hair, brown eyes, and stands at about 5'9". He appears to be skinny, but actually has a rather wiry build beneath his clothes. Graham doesn't really have much preference for what he wears, or even much of a fashion sense to speak of in general. If you tell him it looks good on him, he'll happily wear it, even if it's a blatant lie.
[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]
Easy going Optimistic Excitable Friendly Gullible Impulsive
[ BIO ]
Graham doesn't remember much about his early life, only life in the facility. He, along with many other children, were collected and brought to the facility to take part in the Typhon Project, led by a man who called himself The Poacher. The Poacher would always claim that these experiments would make them infinitely stronger, beings beyond any machine. In return for their gifts, all he asked was that they accept him as their father, and give him their loyalty in his quest to save the entire world, from both the vile, corrupt 'heroes' who treated humanity as if they were nothing, and the mindless machines who supported them. Of the 42 children gathered over the years, Graham became the third of just seven who were considered 'successful' subjects. This was how he earned a name, changing from Subject 33 to Gamma. From then on, he served the Poacher as a loyal minion, protecting him from a number of rivals and outside forces alongside his 'siblings', and even leaving the facility to aid him in other missions. These often involved conflicts with heroes, and though at first they were just more enemies, but as they got into more and more fights with them, he began to notice something... different... The way they would fight almost always seemed to focus around defence, protecting the weaker normal humans when they could have taken the opportunity to attack them. This came to a head when an accident during a fight nearly led to one of his younger siblings, Epsilon, being crushed by falling debris, only to be saved by the hero they were fighting at the time. He would never forget the emotions he saw pass over that heroes face as Epsilon was pushed clear of the rubble. That look of pure, unadulterated relief. It wasn't just him that had been affected either. Upon returning to the lab and talking to the rest of his siblings, it was clear that they all agreed on some level that something wasn't right. They'd been told that the people the world called 'heroes' were all monsters, sadistic and unforgiving people who would kill them on sight. By fighting them, they were saving the world, one fight at a time. And yet one had just given their life to protect Epsilon, their enemy. They decided it was time to start looking into things a little further. Perhaps their father had just misunderstood something, maybe he could work together with the heroes, and they could all protect the world as a team! As it turned out, there was a misunderstanding, but not on the Poachers side. As their secret hunt for information continued, they found themselves confronted with more and more evidence that their father was not the hero he claimed to be. The things he had done, the things they had done, they were truly horrific. Moreover, they served no real goal other than to further the mans own experiments. It was likely he would continue this process until they were all killed, or until he achieved... something... So they all collectively decided they wouldn't give him the chance, at least not with them. For almost a full year and a half, they planned their escape, until finally, just a few days before Gamma turned eighteen, they found their chance. A team of heroes had discovered the lab, and had launched an raid. Instead of rushing to engage the intruders like the Poacher had ordered, they instead used the confusion to sneak around them and try to leave. However, before they could make it out, they found themselves face to face with the Poacher himself, who declared that he had caught onto their plans a few months prior, and would destroy them before allowing them to leave, if only to prevent his research from potentially falling into the hands of his rivals. To this end, he released something horrific on them, the unsuccessful subjects of the Typhon Project. Mindless humanoid abominations, who knew only hunger, pain and anger. It seemed unlikely that they'd make it through them, if not for the two oldest siblings, Alpha and Beta, putting everything they had into clearing a path through the horde so Gamma could take the others and escape. Finally, after years of living as little more than weapons, they were free. However, they still had the issue of trying to survive on their own in a world they don't really know much of anything about, especially the younger ones. They managed to survive for a little bit, but Gamma, now calling himself Graham, was seriously beginning to wonder if he could actually take care of them properly as the new oldest sibling. In fact, it seemed quite likely that he would end up letting them down, having gotten them all out of the lab only to fall to one of the many dangers of the outside world. Until they met a man with tired eyes, who offered him a chance to be someone who can protect his family, protect everyone. A chance to be a hero.
| MISCELLANEOUS |
Graham has four surviving siblings, only two of which were old enough to have worked in the field along with him, Alpha and Beta. The two who were old enough for field work were Delta at seventeen, now named Delilah, and Epsilon at fifteen, now named Emil. The younger two are Zeta at twelve, now Zeke, and Eta at just six, now calling herself Elise.
ABILITIES [ RANKING ]
B rank
[ POWERS ]
Graham can assimilate the dna of any living creature he's eaten into his own body, allowing him to either transform parts of his body into theirs, or grow new ones to mimic them. This allows him great versatility at close range, transforming to adapt to most situations with great efficiency. However, at long range he is unfortunately limited to either throwing things or trying to close the distance between him and his opponent. Naturally, the act of transforming burns an incredible amount of energy and calories, and he therefore has to eat an equally incredible amount of food in order to keep his power from literally starving him to death. In addition, transforming too many times in a short period can easily leave him exhausted, so he has to be very careful not to get careless in that area, a task that can be quite difficult given his impulsive nature.
[ PHYSICAL STRENGTH ] ■■■■■■■□□□ 7/10 Graham has been fed the meat of many animals that wield strength far beyond that of an ordinary human, such as bears and gorillas, and oxen. When manifested, these allow him a great boost to his own physical strength. [ AGILITY ] ■■■■■■■■□□ 8/10 Agility is one of the areas where Graham's power really shines. By transforming his legs, feet and relevant back muscles into those of a frog, or better yet, a flea, he can leap great distances easily. With a few more transformations on top of those to change the form of the leg, he can put those muscles towards running speed instead, with equally incredible results. He can manifest wings of birds he's eaten for flight, or the fins, tails and gills of fish to move freely underwater. Though he may not have true super speed, when it comes to mobility, they're just about the only ones who have him beat. [ INTELLIGENCE ] ■■□□□□□□□□ Intelligence is something of a falling point for Graham. He just doesn't have much knowledge on how to live out in the real world, despite Jeremy's best attempts to teach him. On top of that, he never actually had any real schooling in the lab, as most academic knowledge didn't really serve his purpose as a humanoid weapon. He can read, write, and count decently enough, but almost any other subject is lost on him. The only things stopping him from falling to a one are his sharp instincts and tracking abilities, a decent grasp of combat tactics, and a surprisingly good understanding of biology and the animal kingdom, having been deemed absolutely necessary by the Poacher. [ DESTRUCTIVENESS ] ■■■■■■□□□□ 6/10 Graham has relatively few options available to him if he wants to damage buildings and the like. Sure, for small things he can definitely do a number of things, such as smashing through doors or walls with the arms of a mantis shrimp, but he is unlikely to be toppling buildings on his own any time soon. [ LETHALITY ] ■■■■■■■■■□ 9/10 Teeth, claws, spines, venom, aformentioned mantis shrimp arms, Graham is a being built to end life, and to his shame, he is exceptionally good at it. [ ENDURANCE ] ■■■■■■■■□□ Sometimes humans forget just how incredible animals can be when it comes to defence. The iron clad beetle has to have a hole drilled through their shells before scientists can mount them with pins. A certain type of deep sea snail known as chrysomallon squamiferum is covered in hard scales, and has literal iron incorporated into it's shell. Graham can grow these shells over his skin, scaled up to match his human size. Another aspect of his power is that he can also nullify any poisons, venom, or parasites he ingests. Dangerous materials such as sharp bones or inorganic materials will still cause damage due to injuries, but he can eat food no matter how old it would normally be, even if it's rotten. [ EFFICACY ] ■■■■■■□□□□ While highly versatile, Graham's power to transform is limited depending on how much he's eaten recently. If he's got a lot stored away, he's good to go, but if he hasn't eaten enough in the last few hours, it could fail him right when he needs it most. A story filled loss, regret, and failure. Always staying in the background, both to try and raise his friends up and to hide from the eyes of old enemies, he's a man who has gotten used to hiding his true self. Oh sure, there were good times, even great ones! Days he wished would never end, surrounded by friends who not only understood him, but accepted him despite his many flaws. However, whether it be his parents, his childhood friends, or the love of his life, he always found himself unable to protect the things he cherished the most. Still, he couldn't give up, no matter how much he wanted to. They'd never have forgiven him if he had. Instead, he abandoned his reputation and allowed himself to fade into obscurity once more, now working primarily as a teacher at the Academy of Junior Heroes. Even with all his losses, helping the next generation reach their true potential never fails to give him at least a little bit of hope that things could be better, even if many students don't seem to have any respect for someone with as little to his name as him. Occasionally though, Director Steel will contact him with tasks specifically suited to his particular skillset, often in the form of either investigation, or elimination. It is one such mission he is returning from now, having spent a full two years wandering the country and discreetly gathering information on a new potential threat. It just so happens that just after the first year, he met a young man with hopeful eyes, and in a stir of emotions he had been worried he may no longer have, offered to take him and his siblings back to Castleburg. There, he could give the boy the chance to become what he had failed to be. All of existence is built upon a force known as the Code, which as the name implies, functions as something like the code of a computer program. Magi use runes from various ancient languages to manipulate this code, inscribing them in complex arrays to add, remove, or alter various effects to whatever they're written on. It is an extremely dangerous power to wield, and even a slight mistake in the writing process, or the smallest incompatibility between runes used in the arrays, can cause a paradox that results in the array, along with an amount of space around it dependent on the size and complexity of the array, will be completely erased from reality. However, to someone who has dedicated themselves to the craft as intensely as Jeremy, this is rarely a problem. He has become exceedingly skilled at the art of thaumaturgy, the many unpredictable perils of his life forcing him to push well beyond what other magi his age have attempted.
[ PHYSICAL STRENGTH ] ■■■□□□□□□□ 3/10 Jeremy's strength is barely above what a normal person can achieve, being incapable of reinforcing his own body with runes as many other magi can due to the mistakes of his past. [ AGILITY ] ■■■□□□□□□□ 3/10 Although he's trained himself to be as mobile as possible, his body is still just that of a normal human. [ INTELLIGENCE ] ■■■■■■■■□□ 8/10 Unfortunately, Jeremy is actually rather inept when it comes to many normal academic subjects. However, when it comes to things like magic, combat tactics, and analysing opponents, he could easily be called a genius. [ DESTRUCTIVENESS ] ■■■■■■■■□□ 8/10 If armed with the right runes ahead of time, Jeremy can cause a devastating amount of destruction in a relatively short amount of time. Not that he would, of course, but between explosive arrays and transmutation arrays, he definitely could. [ LETHALITY ] ■■■■■■■■■□ 9/10 Though he would still rather avoid it when possible, killing others seems to be Jeremy's specialty. Runes make it easy. Runically enchanted firearms make it easier. It's a talent he's cultivated over nearly forty years, and he gets the depressing feeling that isn't going to change any time soon. [ ENDURANCE ] ■■■■■□□□□□ 5/10 While Jeremy can enchant his clothing to withstand certain attacks, and even bullets to a degree, it's entirely possible for stronger powers to break through these defences. [ EFFICACY ] ■■■■■□□□□□ 5/10 Though not strictly necessary, most runes generally need to be written using the casters blood, or an ink made with it mixed in. The less blood used for the runes, the less powerful the effects will be. As Jeremy, like most humans, only has a limited amount of blood, he usually has to prepare runes ahead of time when he's safe, and then bring them out only when he definitely needs them. It unfortunately results in fairly common anemia. His primary aim in life seems to be annoying people, poking and pulling at any thing he can in someones personality, actions, or anything else he can find, generally continuing until he's silenced by some form of violent assault on his person. He can also be very petty, grumbling and sulking about anything, or more usually anyone, who's managed to get on his bad side for days after the initial incident if nobody shuts him up beforehand, and regularly gives into vices and bad habits on a whim. On top of that, he tends to flip flop between laying around, wasting time when he should be doing something, or getting ridiculously overexcited about something and fixating on it, trying to drag anyone around him into it with him, regardless of their plans. At the same time however, one of his most visible traits is how much he loves to laugh, and make other people laugh along with him. If someone looks even closer, there are also hints of something deeper to his thoughts, a deep loneliness that might just be what causes him to act out the way he does, and potentially some well-hidden maturity buried beneath the idiocy. Sometimes, if he manages to keep quiet, he can even trick people into thinking he's actually kind of cool. Unfortunately for him, this is usually a delusion, and should not be taken seriously.
[ BIO ]
Marco doesn't actually know his real name. He's pretty sure he remembers people calling him Marco, but his last name may very well be lost to time, the name Shaw coming from an incident he prefers not to think about. His family only appear in very faint memories, and he probably hasn't seen them since he was a very young child, though again, the exact details of how old he was, or what happened, are vague. In the end, the root of all these issues seems to be the same. People don't remember Marco. He isn't sure why, other than that it has something to do with his power, but the vast majority of people seem to forget who he is or that they've ever met him within two days at best, most not even lasting longer than one. Odds are his parents were the same, and he's been wandering around the country pretty much as long as he could remember. Surprisingly though, it's been rare for him to ever find himself in danger of something like starving, largely due the other aspect of his power, allowing him to teleport almost instantaneously, as long as nobody is either looking at him when he departs, or looking at his destination. This has allowed him to teleport into houses, raiding them for food and 'supplies', and then teleport out again. However, it hasn't been all sunshine and rainbowws for our beloved wandering idiot... In fact, over his travels, he has come to feel a distinct sense of loneliness. Many, many times, he's tried to end his life of drifting from place to place, stealing whatever he can and moving on. Tried to talk to people, make friends, and settle down, but almost inevitably, time after time after time, he would be forgotten. No matter how he tried to stick in their memories, it seemed they were doomed to fade. In addition to the mental and emotional pain this brought him, it also seemed to have an effect on him physically. The smaller the number of people who knew who he was at any given time, the less he felt connected to the physical world. Teleporting would become scary, the act of actually returning from the void it transported him through becoming significantly more difficult, and he started to wonder if perhaps the people who knew him functioned as a sort of tether or anchor to the real world, with more people making for a stronger connection. And so started his new way of life. Realising that his hopes of a normal life with friends or a family were next to impossible, he instead turned to a new tactic; annoying a number of random people every day, and stealing whatever he could get his grubby mitts on. While not a particularly fulfilling life, he was able to live fairly comfortably, pissing a bunch of people off in one spot, finding a good place to hide for a couple of seconds, and teleporting away from the ensuing mob to eat, sleep, and sell off other peoples hard earned valuables. Alternatively, he'll find a place where the people are soft-hearted enough to let him stay with them for a bit and ruthlessly taking advantage of their kindness, although this rarely even lasts the two days or so it would take to forget him before he gets 'evicted'. Whatever the outcome, the end result usually allows him to keep living as the hedonistic slacker. Before too long, anyone he'd turned against him would forget what he'd done, only remembering that he'd annoyed them. After a couple of days, they'd forget him entirely, and he'd be free to repeat the process somewhere else. However, his 'surefire, fool proof, absolute one hundred percent success rate plan' hasn't quite been working out as he planned. Across the countries, a few people have started to notice the re-emergence of faint, scattered memories. Memories of some vaguely ghost-like figure, mooching off them for a few days and being generally pathetic and annoying before disappearing forever. Even more rarely, there will be someone who remembers the annoying idiot that is Marco Shaw with relative clarity, unsure whether they're happy or sad that he disappeared without even saying goodbye. One thing is for sure, now that his drifting has finally brought him to the city of Castleburg, the odds of an easy, carefree life have dropped significantly. It's just too bad he's too stupid to figure that out himself.
| MISCELLANEOUS |
He's actually terrified of bugs, which is ironic, as anyone who remembers him tends to consider him a human-sized leech at best. The pull of the other dimension is stronger than his connection to ours, but he can remain connected to our world as long as other people acknowledge his existence. As long as the connection is there, Marco can temporarily release his hold on our world and slip into the other dimension, falling through the void before pulling himself back into ours in a different location. Though he may spend a number of seconds falling through the void before reaching his intended destination, it will seemingly be instantaneous within our world. However, he can only perform this teleportation as long as no one can see him, or would be able to see his destination, as this makes his anchor to our world too strong, preventing him from releasing it and slipping into the void. On the other hand, if nobody acknowledges his existence, or even if the number of people who do is just too small, the opposite would be the case, and he would be unable to pull himself back into our world from the void. This is compounded by the fact that his comparatively weak existence and lack of presence within our dimension will cause the vast majority of peoples memories of him to fade far quicker than normal, rarely lasting more than one or two days. This means that it is an absolute priority for him to stand out and make an impression with people at least once every two days, or else any attempts to teleport would most likely trap him in the void. Of course, abusing his teleportations enough times in rapid succession would most likely weaken his connection to our dimension enough to bring the same result, regardless of how strongly anchored he was beforehand.
[ PHYSICAL STRENGTH ] 1/10 While he can hit things with a decent amount of force, anything that involves persistent effort like pushing or lifting things is too much for his tiny, lanky frame to handle. [ INTELLIGENCE ] 3/10 While it would be difficult to consider Marco actually academically talented, or even particularly good at keeping out of trouble, he has demonstrated an unnerving cleverness when it comes to getting backout of it again, as if a switch has been flicked in his brain.
