At just 5’2” and 115 pounds, she is both beauty and grace gathered into a very tiny package. Wavy, flowing tresses of blonde hair frame a soft-featured face, with fair skin, piercing blue eyes, and lips painted a salacious scarlet. Her style of dress borders on extravagant. She is never seen without luxurious, designer brand clothing, favoring appearance over comfort. In public-or simply whenever she feels like it-she dresses somewhat provocatively. Her skirts somehow always run just a little too high on her legs, and she holds no shame for the plunging necklines and tight fits on her dresses. In professional settings, however, she clothes herself appropriately, often donning sharp blouses and pencil skirts. Her hero suit is similarly revealing. Made to capture the public eye (and, more importantly, keep it), the costume consists of a white leather vest, fingerless gloves, metal bracers, a tool belt, spandex shorts, and…not much else. It leaves much of her chest and legs exposed, and does absolutely nothing to keep all that hair out of her eyes. In fact, that pretty face is left wide open for all to see. (She can heal herself anyway, right? And it’s not like she’s gonna be on the front lines, right? So who cares?) Underneath the pageantry and showboating of celebrity, however, Sophie goes to painstaking lengths to take care of her body. Close inspection of her person will reveal a great deal of lean muscle, particularly in her legs and abdomen. After all—if you can’t fly, teleport, or use super speed, you’d better get good at cardio.
[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]
♥ RECKLESS: Sophie is incredibly impulsive by nature. She has almost no regard for her own wellbeing, physical or otherwise. In fact, she gets a sort of thrill from throwing herself into danger, and often does so without any sort of escape plan. At the very least, she knows better than to endanger the lives of her colleagues or any innocent bystanders…except, of course, for those foolish enough to chase after her. ♥ SELFLESS: Sophie prioritizes the needs of others far before she even begins to consider her own. She has no qualms about laying down her life for someone else’s, whether they’re a complete stranger or a loved one. She truly believes that her life, happiness, and overall wellbeing come second when compared to someone else’s. As a result, she enjoys taking care of others, always willing to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on, even if it exhausts her. ♥ EMOTIONAL: As someone who thinks much more with her heart than her head, Sophie is very sensitive to her own feelings, and is often misguided by their whims. On the one hand, she is remarkably upbeat, and never shies away from flashing that winning smile of hers. On the other, however, she is quick to take offense and lose her temper, bursting into fits of explosive rage. ♥ INTELLIGENT VS. WISE: When it comes to information retention and recall, Sophie excels. She learns new skills with ease, and is quick to make observations that others might miss. However, she often fails to make practical use of this intelligence, by virtue of her total lack of foresight. Consequences don’t occur to her until they’ve already smacked her in the face; as a result, she frequently acts far before she thinks. This “leap before you look” attitude gets her into a great deal of trouble career-wise, as well as amongst her interpersonal relationships. ♥ VIOLENT: By all accounts, Sophie seems like a kindhearted and gentle young woman. The moment she’s provoked, however, she is anything but. Due in large part to a lack of problem solving skills, her first resort is usually to hit something--or, more likely, someone. This innate proclivity for violence becomes much worse when she’s acting on the behalf of someone she cares for; even petty disputes can end in a fistfight. When dealing with the criminal element, she is particularly ruthless, using what could be considered excessive force when she deems it necessary.
[ BIO ]
The von Riegan family line goes back hundreds of years, all the way to the dawn of heroes. It was then that her forefather, a German man by the name of Claudius, first took up the mantle of Amplify: the Hero’s Hero. Even the most impossible odds could be overcome, so long as the man himself fought at your side. He quickly earned some renown as a local German folk hero, becoming a staple in the ever-increasing battles against villainy. Amplify then became a hereditary title, passed on from father to son for generations to come. As heroism and celebrity came to intersect, the Riegan household began to accumulate a great deal of wealth, to the point that a career-much less in heroism-was no longer necessary for the family’s heirs. Even so, the eldest son always inherited the title, and performed his duties accordingly. But as we all know, heroism did not retain its place in the spotlight forever. With the advent of eKops came the tumultuous downfall of the common hero, and with it the gradual decline of the Riegan family legacy. To make matters worse, the family experienced the greatest snag in their long and storied history: the birth of their only child, a daughter. Born in Hamburg, Germany, to Felix and Agatha von Riegan, Sophia’s childhood was...complicated, to say the very least. No Riegan daughter had ever taken up the mantle of Amplify; but then, there had never been a sole Riegan child to begin with. Left with no other option, Felix began to groom Sophia for the role at an early age. Soon enough, it became clear to the young girl that her father held her in some contempt. Felix was abrasive, cruel, and easily angered--even violent. Sophia’s life was micromanaged on a scale that even she could not truly comprehend in full; each day was scheduled down to the minute, with not so much as a second allotted to herself. Private tutors and personal trainers shuffled in and out of the estate, all under strict instruction not to form any strong attachments to the girl. Her mother, of course, offered little help; Agatha suffered from severe postpartum depression following her daughter’s birth. Trapped in a loveless marriage as a loveless mother, she took to opioid abuse as a means of coping, and never recovered. As a result, Sophia grew up isolated, traumatized, and boiling with resentment. Even so, her father’s training was far from worthwhile. In spite of his harsh treatment, Sophia took to it like a fish to water, displaying great aptitude for the skills he taught her, as well as proper usage of her power. By her adolescence, she’d become a capable hero in her own right, and was granted small ventures into the career under her father’s supervision. But by this point, of course, robots had long since superseded heroes as a means of dealing with criminals. Work was slow, and infrequent even on good days. Sophia struggled to make a name for herself, often falling behind in her father’s shadow. It was then that tragedy truly struck. Agatha succumbed to her addiction, passing away in her sleep while her husband and daughter combed the streets for criminal activity. Upon finding her body, an enraged Felix turned on Sophia, declaring that her mother’s death must surely be her fault. The two came to blows almost instantly, a fight that saw Sophia thrown from a second story window. Vowing never to return, she left her father behind, determined to carve her path on her own. Friendless and inexperienced, Sophia again struggled to make a name for herself, until a minor breakthrough garnered some attention from the public. A villain with the power to generate extremely powerful EMPs attempted to rob a bank, temporarily disabling the eKops already present. Arriving on the scene with other local heroes, Sophia proved instrumental in the villain’s defeat, earning her a few headlines. Evidently, this was enough to capture HERO’s attention, due in no small part to her unique powerset and appealing public image. Leaping at the chance to escape Germany, Sophia readily accepted, eager for steady work and greater public attention. And so, Amplify joined the team, making her mark as a boon to HERO’s impressive roster of...well, heroes. But whether she can overcome the ghosts of her past-as well as the great burden of her family’s legacy-has yet to be seen.
| MISCELLANEOUS |
♥ Very fond of comic books and their subsequent film adaptations. She can enhance natural biological processes, such as lung capacity, muscle density, and regeneration, as well as any powers that her target may already have. She can also grant some unnatural boons, if she so decides; for example, she can give herself a degree of super strength, super speed, superhuman reflexes, and more. This offers her a great deal of versatility, as she can assign buffs that enhance the target's strengths or compensate for their weaknesses. This also means she fits in well as a healer, capable of patching wounds even from at a distance. Who could possibly bleed out when their bone marrow is producing blood at such an elevated rate?
[ PHYSICAL STRENGTH ] ■■■■■■□□□□ 6/10. Sophie’s power acts in proportion to her natural abilities, as well as those belonging to others. In this instance, she lacks any enhanced strength beyond her normal human conditioning. As a result, her buffed strength is relatively average compared to other metahumans. [ AGILITY ] ■■■■■■■□□□ 7/10. Because Sophie is a naturally gifted runner, in her fully buffed state she is extremely fast, even relative to other metahumans. Furthermore, she has the ability to buff her reflexes, stamina, and physical coordination, granting her feats of athleticism far beyond what the average human could achieve. [ INTELLIGENCE ] ■■■■■□□□□□ 5/10. Because Sophie cannot buff intelligence, her base level never changes. Even so, she is remarkably bright, with a sharp aptitude for learning and observation. However, she’s not quite a genius, and her impulsivity often obscures her actual ability. [ DESTRUCTIVENESS ] ■■■□□□□□□□ 3/10. Even in her fully buffed state, Sophie’s destructive capability is fairly marginal. Even this is contingent upon her having buffed her own physical strength, which isn’t always the case. However, her short temper often pushes her toward destruction, even on a small scale. [ LETHALITY ] ■■■□□□□□□□ 3/10. Sophie has almost no offensive output whatsoever, and as such, she most likely won’t be the one to deal a finishing blow. However, her persistent ruthlessness, weapons training, and hand-to-hand ability do present a threat greater than that of the average human. [ ENDURANCE ] ■■■■■■■■■□ 9/10. Because of her ability to buff her own healing, durability, and stamina, Sophie’s endurance is impressive even among metahumans. Her innate persistence and willpower ensure that no matter what sort of beating she takes, she will force herself to get back up. This is perhaps the greatest boon to her ability as a hero. [ EFFICACY ] ■■■■■□□□□□ 5/10. Due to the nature of her power, Sophie works best on a team. On her own, her capability is limited at best, and even in her fully buffed state she poses only a minor threat. In addition, extensive use of her power weakens it; spreading multiple effects across multiple people means that each individual buff is weaker. However, the usage of her power is not contingent upon anything except her state of consciousness. So long as she is awake and can see her target, she can use this power in whatever way she deems appropriate. As such, it is staunchly reliable, and can be used at almost any time.
