Yes, I'm probably going to edit that to clear up. Here's a quick explanation about what I meant to happen.

The star went supernova, but I'm still deciding about whether or not it destroyed my colony. The planet was pretty far away from the sun, plus all the people lived underground. Also adding in the fact the my planet isn't really in the orbit of the sun, and is slowly leaving the solar system I think it will just be the surface that had problems.
