This was her element. It was gonna take a lot more than a few stares and a story about some boogeyman to scare her off! It did introduce an important question: why? What did someone have to gain out of attacking first-years? It wasn't like they could brag about it, beating up someone half your size and three years younger. And it wasn't like first years were rich, either, so they could safely rule out theft as a possible motive. "Sounds like someone wants to send a message," Mai mumbled, more to herself than to anyone around her. If Ikue was right and the Student Council was getting involved in trying to keep things quiet, then they were trying to assert their authority over the new kids; that put her right in their crosshairs. Which was right where she wanted to be. Taking on the Student Council was brave. Taking on the Student Council and winning was next to impossible. But what was the alternative? Keep her head down and hope the bad things wouldn't happen to her, ignoring when her classmates came to school bloody and bruised, if they came to school at all? Not likely! This thug wasn't going to stop on their own, and it was up to her to make them stop Mai had been so caught up in her little fantasy of taking on the Student Council that for a moment, she forgot to say anything at all. She snapped out of it when she felt Yonaka's hand on her shoulder, reminding her that there were others in her presence, waiting for her to contribute to the planning. "Hey, I can look after myself!" she asserted, in her typical bokukko fashion. "Don't go changing the plan on my account. If you need my help to catch this chump, all you gotta do is ask."
