Well, character-wise, Alexander was bullied a lot, and put under a lot of pressure. You saw how his sister acted. He doesn't want the kind of life his sister does, but he was always afraid to stand up for himself. The ball though? He finally snapped and told her off, so to speak. 

But sure, she can go to him. :)
