Again. He didn't mind; he liked the quietness and stillness of the greenhouse. Something about being surrounded by plants, dirt, and hard work gave him some peace of mind. He was glad he hadn't been called to the Big House, unlike poor Sawyer. Probably some search and rescue. Kareem had never been to one partly because he didn't like going out of the camp much. And because he didn't feel useful in his permanent condition. Kareem liked to act like the missing arm didn't bother him when it did. Very much so. It wasn't that he didn't feel complete, that wasn't it. It just felt... different. After recovering fully from his little run-in with that asshole of a scorpion. Now scorpions were something that Kareem didn't fuck with at all. He could still remember the sudden burning pain when the stinger penetrated his skin and boiled his blood all the way up his arm- and then nothing. The next thing he remembered was the hospital and his arm was gone. The phantom pain was a bitch to deal with. There were days when he couldn't do much but lay in bed. Those nights were the worst. Katherine had tried to help Tatiana and Vivian as well, but nothing they did much to sedate the pain. Other days it wasn't even the pain, it was just an itch he couldn't scratch on his left hand. Other times it was the left thumb. He rubbed the stump after he put down the water hose. Sometimes there was not much you could do, and that was fine. Kareem perked up when he heard his name being called behind him. He turned back, looking around until he spotted Remus. He gave the boy an easy smile, waving with his right hand. "Hey, Rem! Didn't know you " Last Kareem remembered Remus had been out retrieving a new camper- as there she was. "Oh, hello there!" His smiled widen, feeling the familiar energy that surrounded her. A new half-sister? Half-cousin? Either way, now he wouldn't have to do the field chores alone.
