[indent]To an outsider, Edenridge is a beautiful place. To those born there, they know that this little slice of heaven is actually a gateway to hell. April McMahon was the living embodiment of the darkness that drifted between the old panel walls of the Colonial style town. Once upon a time, she was the head cheerleader at Edenridge High with the world at her feet. Fast forward only two years, and her life was in disarray. Hooked on drugs, dancing at the Edge of Sin, and being held prisoner in a relationship by a psychotic Serpent by the name of BT; April wasn’t expecting to see the age of twenty one. When police officers Mason Hyde and Sylvester James broke down the doors of 7 Carlisle after responding to a domestic dispute, they were taken aback by the squalor and filth of their surroundings. April was tied to a radiator, battered, bruised and pregnant. BT attempted to pull a gun but was brought down by the cop pair in a hailstorm of bullets. 

April was taken into protective custody and little did she think that she would meet the love of her life but that is what happened. Very swiftly, she and Mason were married and April gave birth to a blue eyed baby boy they named Cameron. The assumption to most was that he was BT’s child but what most people didn’t know was that Cameron was the son of Ivan Zima, a NY gangster with ties to the Serpents that Big Papi Rey Gonzalez had asked April to entertain before her incarceration. Mason claimed Cameron as his own and some people believed him but to most others, the little red haired boy with the cute dimples was the son of a serial killer. 

Things were comfortable for the young family, at least at the start. April got her act together and began working as an estate agent and Mason, the best undercover officer the Police had seen in a long while, was bringing home a lot of money. Too much money. Eventually, a deep dive into Mason’s assets saw him arrested on corruption charges and Mason was soon locked up. Being an ex-cop in prison was a death sentence and before long he was killed in prison. April and Cameron fell out of favour with the fickle Eden community and found themselves back living on the Southside from where they had only just previously escaped. Big Rey took care of them, of course, just like he always did with everyone south of Carlisle Avenue. But it didn’t really change much for young Cameron in the grand scheme of things.

Very early on, it was obvious there was something just a little off about April’s boy. Early teachers felt that maybe he had some form of learning disorder as whenever they spoke to him, he just wasn’t there. The lights were on but there never seemed to be anyone home. He could hold a conversation for sure but a lot of the time he would just stare. Often compared to a starving dog, he wanted what other people had. It was almost a compulsion. It started out small: stealing other kids' toys at recess, a few bits of food off of their plate at lunch, that sort of thing. The older Cameron got, the more this compulsion drove him and the more he began to succumb to the same darkness as his parents. 

Petty theft soon became the norm for him as the stealing of lunch money just wasn’t big enough. He enrolled at Five Tool Martial Arts to try and learn discipline and structure but all his brief time there served to do was to give Cameron more weapons to use against a world that had wronged him before he was born. He was expelled from the academy and is so far the only child that Will Ramsey has ever given up on. Even before he had started high school, the boy was in trouble with every authority figure you could imagine from his mother, to the principal and onward to the police. Both the Fear Gorta and the Serpents realised the boy's potential for mayhem but both were turned down during the recruitment process. Cameron didn’t need anyone; he was a lone wolf, a man without a country.

By the time he began attending Edenridge High, Hyde had matured into an incredibly violent young man. More often than not, he could not seem to control this impulse. That said he didn’t just fight, Cameron was sadistic even as a youth; a wild animal born. It wasn’t just throwing fists and calling it a day, it was breaking bones, it was smashing faces with rocks, it was squeezing the life out of people, it was everything in between and everything beyond. As you’d imagine, it didn’t take long for him to be expelled. That didn’t stop him from hanging around in the parking lot, smoking and selling weed that he got from some mystery connection. The mere mention of his name instilled feelings of dread and fear in the populace of Edenridge. It didn’t take Hyde long to earn the nom de plume of “The Devil” as he was easy to trust thanks to his good looks but his known savagery left a dark cloud wherever he stood. During this time, Cameron’s relationship with his mother continued to sour as the fragile woman began to give herself to religion; a fact which deeply disturbed her son.

Things began to take an even more troublesome turn in the life of Cameron Hyde when Big Papi Rey unloaded some home truths onto the boy. Not only was his father not his father but he also had a brother and a sister and they were people that he knew! As whispers of the truth began to circulate around the small town, Hyde’s behaviour and overall mood began to worsen. As his mental and emotional state disintegrated and he descended deeper into madness, the now monstrous Hyde wound up getting himself into major trouble on one very long bad night. The actual events are hazy or one of the best kept secrets in town. All that really is known is that Hyde was arrested with a copious number of charges held against his name. He pled guilty to all of them without much of a fight, which in itself was terribly out of character for him.

Sentenced to ten years, Hyde was routinely assaulted and tortured by other prisoners due to the word of someone with power. This included being burned by cigarettes, beaten continuously, stabbed and strangled. Throughout all this he kept his mouth shut and he did not complain once about how he was treated. A few years on and now Hyde has been released early for good behaviour. Apparently reformed; Cameron has headed back to his hometown, intent on correcting some wrongs…[/indent]
