I personally prefer to RP 1x1s in Guild PMs only. 

And I don't really have a posting speed requirement. If you post only one reply once a month then I guess I would probably lose interest in the story as there would be no progress. But if you post every day or only once a week, it should be alright. Assuming the quality of your post is decent enough.
