The beginning of Bane's reply didn't sound great but Kay truly felt like if Serena didn't give in to their pleas of her staying behind then they would have to take drastic measures to keep her back. It was when the loud crash happened that caused all their heads to turn toward where it was coming from and Sam and Kay rushed to the hallway to see Serena down and out but shaking. 

They were about to tend to her when whatever it was suddenly affected John as well, but not as drastically. "John?" Kay asked, instantly holding him to try and keep him upright. "What's going on?" she asked, feeling like she needed to know so she could try and help. Sam knelt down to Serena and saw her eyes glowing green, "uhh...guys her eyes are glowing green!" Sam said slightly panicked.
