Sure! Your character could be a medical specialist on the expedition if you'd like. I imagine they would have some alchemy experience for medicines and potions, so perhaps your character is close friends with Doctor Gharlan. We could say they attended Dravenmore Academy of Advanced Alchemy together in their youth before splitting off into their respective fields, or if you want your character to be younger, perhaps Gharlan was a professor at the Academy for a time and they were his student before they split off into a medical specialization. Then when it came time for the expedition, Gharlan put in a good word for them with the Fellowship. That is, of course, just an idea, and you are free to choose whatever origin you'd like for your character.
