That's one thing you can damn well bet on. A family can raise a son. Lose them, then gain them back. A woman can find a love, cheat on them and then regain the first love. People win and lose daily. People live and then die, daily. These can almost be called facts of life. In a case or two, they are. For Hayden, it started when he was in the Army. For all that he is now, Hayden was a good soldier. He had a healthy respect for authority, and did what he was told, within the limits of morality at any rate. He served mostly in minor peace-keeping situations and served well. Nothing really of note. He did his duty and did his best at it. He fired his weapon only once maybe thrice in the heat of the moment in his entire 3 years as an army grunt. But something during that time. Perhaps his strict adherence to following orders. Could have been that anyway. But out of the blue an offer was made. An offer from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, CSOR. Next to the JTF-2, CSOR is the best military unit that the Canadian Military could field. And they wanted him to join up and take part. He’d be a fool not to take them up on the offer. So he joined CSOR, and began his training. And this was a whole other ball game. CSOR had a more clandestine style to them. Their work wasn’t usually broadcast, and the things they did wasn’t always above board. So Hayden quickly lost his normal morality. One of his first missions after finishing his training was a black ops assassination mission. A team of seven sent into a backwoods Surinamese community, and tasked to kill four high profile members of the community. Believed to be Cartel adminstration. These would be the similar missions that Hayden would be sent into during his eight year stint with the CSOR. He quickly lost his naivete. Feeling jaded and angry about the things he needed to do. So when he got the chance he took a walking ticket. He left the service. But didn’t want to stop. He’d grown a taste for doing things the hard way. He went on to travel, it was in Egypt he hired on with an oil company. Providing armed security on site. Fending off robbers during the night, and frightening off protesters during the day. Then served in Israel for a time as a consultant with a honest to god mercenary company. Then joined said company and was assigned to various operations around the middle east and eastern Europe. Up until a year ago anyway when he was in Rwanda. Serving with a COGS run silver mine as one of seventeen ex-pat mercenaries working security. He was already in Africa when the call came for him to serve once again. At first he told the Canadian government to go have sexual intercourse with their mothers. But after several repeated calls and negotiations and bargaining, he finally shifted. And agreed to help. An advance of ten thousand dollars got him a beaten up Browning Hi Power, and a spear bladed tomahawk at a Rwandan weapons marketplace. His cover set as a Red Cross relief worker. And he boarded a train heading West. [/hider] My little crazy guy.
