He had no tracking skills of his own, his elongated proboscis being only suitable for aesthetic purposes rather than for any meaningful tracking. Perhaps he could rally some of the villagers to his side, but... the ones worth their salt are likely the same ones who wish ill upon himself. There's no trusting the hunters, after all. Asking for the help of the oni would also be disingenuous as well, seeing as the forces protecting Lady Mie's camp have already dwindled due to the deal he had made...
