Hinotori High School.
While Basketball wasn't Genki's favorite sport, at least he wasn't bad at it. He was pretty tall compared to most of the other students, and could shoot pretty accurately if he had a second or two to aim. He unfortunately wasn't very fast compared to a lot of the others though. Maybe he should've joined the track team instead of the Cooking Club. Nah, he'd just get made fun of there and have to walk home exhausted. At least he was indoors. Today was supposed to be a little chilly, and he swore his uniform was thinner than everyone else's. Eventually however, the coaches had everyone gather around for some boring lecture about the benefits of basketball. But it was worth it for a moment's rest, that game was starting to make him sweat. This would also give him a chance to ogle at the volleyball girls. Maybe he should get a girlfriend. Those thoughts came to a sudden grinding halt as all the lights suddenly went off, a few girls squealing a nanosecond later as the gym was plunged into darkness. So much for all that investment into the school. The sunlight from the windows provided some light, but this was the perfect light level to get up to mischief. He'd have to keep an eye out for delinquents looking to steal his pencils or something. As he scanned the gym for trouble, his eyes landed on the gym doors. A blue little butterfly rested on the doors. A sense of dread, but also excitement washed over him. He remembered running for his life from seemingly invulnerable black hands and orbs with mouths. But he also remembered the rush of adrenaline and bloodlust he felt upon awakening his power. It felt good. But also terrifying. He wondered if the butterfly was here to take him back. Or worse yet, more weird monsters would come and try to take someone. If that was the case, he'd need some way to investigate what it's up to. Maybe his other classmates would be there too. Now how would he go about getting to said butterfly if it left? He could always ask to use the bathroom. Or maybe he could just say he twisted his ankle and needed to see the nurse. Or he could slip away unnoticed, if he was lucky enough. For now though, Genki inched his way towards the bleachers closest to the door, where he noticed Hoshino and Daigo, engaged in conversation. Given Hoshino's permanent scowl it was impossible to tell if he was truly angry or if he just looked like that, but Genki decided to play it safe and not interrupt their conversation, lest he get an earful from Hoshino.
