Markus grew up with little inheritance but the resources to make something of himself. Damara, just as it was back in the days of the Witch King, was an untamed wilderness and driven to despair by darkness. The evil, this time, was not of Zenghyi, but the Warlock Knights of Vasaa. Remembering the final legacy of the Dragonsbane's, Murtil Dragonsbane died and his seat was usurped by Yarin Frostmantle, a weak and ineffective despot of a ruler, withering Damara's armies and corrupting its politics. Under this shadow, Markus took up the adventuring path from a young age, emulating such figures as Mariabronne the Rover from the days of yore. During his teen years, it almost seemed like he was going to take up the mantle of Baron when the Warlock Knights set a plague upon Damara, but whilst all of his siblings were sickened, none passed. With his anger and need for independence on his mind, he set out at the age of seventeen, taking monster bounties and smaller contracts until he decided to join the Bloodstone army out of a need to serve his liege and make his father proud, fighting in its ranks for three years before he grew inescapably disillusioned with Yarin and the leadership of his generals, leaving and traveling southwards to learn new skills, deciding spellcraft was the great unknown for him. He decided to seek out the elves of the south, going on a small adventure that made him a thorn in the side of a Warlock Knight named Kardhel Terov, slaying one of his aides and escaping a Knight outpost until he made it to the Moonsea. Hailing a ship from Hulburg, Markus met an accomplished Swordmage named Geran Hulmaster, who became sort of a mentor to him, telling him of the old Elven way of intermingling sword and sorcery. Markus decided to make his new home there, working as a sailor from Hulburg and spending his time at shore learning the ways of the Eldritch Knight from Geran for three years, before he was bid to test himself from his master by finding the coastal city of Semberholme and learn his final lessons from Daried Selsherryn, the Sun Elf. Two years later, Markus Flintbrook left the city of Semberholme, cutting his way through the Heartlands and Backlands with a band of adventurer's called the Blackswords of the Swordcoast, making a name for himself with his blade and wit, running afoul of the Cult of the Dragon more than once. Disaster struck, however, when he and his group disturbed the sleep of Uabexus the Lich, which scared him beyond hope, leaving him the only survivor. Markus himself spotted the forbidden tomb of the Lich, which no man may see and live. He fled as far as Silver Marches, where he would claim his dream was to carve out a barony of his own, though truthfully he wanted to escape Uabexus and to experience the cold again and the rugged wilderness more akin to his homeland. That, and he heard the Cult of the Dragon was alive and well in the Silver Marches, and he felt they were perhaps the greatest threat to the known world from his travels in the south. He arrived in Deadsnows, looking for some rest and relaxation after a hard year's journey to recoup and weather the snows, maybe make some coin or find someone to warm his bed. Personality: Markus is a strong willed and adventurous young man, having left his moderately wealthy home to seek his fortunes to the east. He enjoys learning, his rebellious attitude having dimmed somewhat from his training by his Elven master. He has a good mind about him when it comes to common sense, though he can be a bit rash if he lets his anger get the better of him. Generally he has a friendly, if wary demeanor. He will sometimes spout wisdom he has learned on his travels. In truth he has more general knowledge than spell knowledge, for he is only a fledgling spell caster. Still, he'll always be interested in learning more of the arcane arts. He has a curiosity about him that he sometimes can't help. Ironically, he'll chastise others for taking risks he might take as well.
