The reasoning is simple if you stop and think about what immortality really means. It's not about wanting death, it's not about dying either. It's accepting that there is a natural cycle to things, it's about the appreciation of time, it's about the appreciation of the finite, the appreciation of finality. To answer your question in the most direct way possible, there is no difference if you think about it. Only the time in between each death. My question is, which life would've been more meaningful? If I died now, I could at least say I'm satisfied... I fought until the last. If I died later, perhaps I'd still be satisfied... But for a different reason entirely. The exercise of life is to find purpose, death keeps us honest and makes sure that purpose is worth it. How many people do you know could make use of their immortality? Many gods from my realm failed hilariously. I can't really see immortality as a good thing.
When you're alive, you can still try to make your life worth something. When you die, you're out of options. It's over. You're slowly forgotten until you never existed in the first place. That's a fate I have no interest in.
