Okay, after drowning in a sea of Pinterest images, I think I've finally found ones that capture Jacques' image in my head! He has dark hair with a light wave he likes to style in a way that makes it look effortlessly toussled. Do not let that fool you; he spends a lot of time getting it perfect. Jacques takes great care in his appearance, preferring darker clothing in wine tones because he knows they complement his skin. Taking great pleasure in the human form, there is only one part of his own body he is self-conscious about: on his chest, there is deep scar tissue over his left pectoral that indicates some sort of gouging injury. Because of this, he rarely shows anyone his bare chest, lest he be questioned about the never-healing injury. He is known in his community as a bit of a philanthropist who is charitable with his money toward causes such as funding social programs or public works projects. Jacques does not flaunt his wealth, but he doesn't dislike being seen as a generous person or when people notice just how expensive his clothing and possessions are. Jacques greatly enjoys the beauty and sensuality of unlife with his heightened senses, surrounding himself with beautiful furniture, ornate fabrics, and interesting conversation. Though he views humans as a food source (as all vampires ultimately do, whether they admit it or not) he also sees them as endearing creatures, preferring to be gentle with them, like one would with a beloved pet. He enjoys making the act of feeding a pleasurable and indulgent experience for everyone involved; he doesn’t take pleasure in treating humans cruelly and views those vampires that do as barbaric beings incapable of truly savoring humanity.

History
Jacques was born into the French aristocracy in 1073. From a young age, he endured the training to become a knight as many noblemen before him had done. Tall and strong as a boy, he excelled in simulated combat as well as the real thing alongside his mentor. Turning 21 granted him the coveted title of knighthood just as religious tension around the Muslim occupancy in Jerusalem was reaching its peak. Under the higher nobility, he joined the First Crusade and took part in the successful siege of Jerusalem in 1099 at the age of 26. The ensuing slaughter was horrid. Hundreds of men, women, and children perished at the hands of the Crusaders, including Jacques. It was in the heat of battle that he was separated from the rest of his men and found himself tackled to the ground by a surprisingly agile and mighty woman. She hissed in his ear that he would suffer for the suffering he and his men had wrought against her people. Then, mercilessly, she tore the armor from Jacques' shoulder and bit down, making quick work of draining his blood while his screams intermingled with those of the citizens. Jacques awoke cold, alone, and thirsty the next night in a pile of rubble. The woman had turned him into a vampire as punishment for his participation in the Crusade. He spent the next year learning of his bloodthirsty condition on his own while he stalked the shadows, too terrified of the carnage he had seen to feed on anything but rats or wander too close to the light. It wasn't until he made his way to a completely different country, England, that he was able to pull himself together and find others of his own kind. They taught him how to be a nobleman again and how he could feed from humans without guilt, even with great pleasure. Jacques enjoyed traveling as the centuries passed, either with others or on his own, but he never stayed in one place for very long. He had passing acquaintances and explosive nights of passion with vampires and humans alike, but no real connections were allowed to form. The idea of true intimacy with another soul was, quite frankly, terrifying for him. It was at the Harrington Estate, however, that Jacques felt a sense of belonging for the first time since his knighthood. It was an intriguing proposal: be partnered with a single human for an extended period of time and form a symbiotic relationship with them...to an extent. There was something about the romance of the idea that attracted Jacques, despite his fears of allowing himself to open up to another. He had run from it long enough; Jacques was finally ready to try "settling down," so to speak. Besides, if he didn't enjoy this way of living, he could always just leave, couldn't he?
