Do you accept newbies? This looks really interesting but I've never played an NRP before.
My idea of a nation is an insular, xenophobic city-state with very detailed religious/societal norms. Think any interaction outside of close friends is 95% scripted. They have lived in their corner of space for ages, and while they have the tech to travel, they don't really want to interact with anyone else. History-wise, it's a humanoid species that was once a religious sect within a larger nation (Solis Ecclesia if that makes sense within the setting). They seceded and were quite violent in defending their small corner of space, so other nations let them be. The society has been stable (or stagnating, depending on how you look at it) for a long time. Their culture mostly revolves around art, think avant-garde jazz and experimental electronic music and generally stuff that likely wouldn't be popular with other cultures. After the galaxy collision, their climate took a turn for worse. Now basically the entire population is living on rations, and population increase is strictly controlled. Because of that, they also face the problem of population aging. It starts to look like they'll need to expand and/or trade with other nations to survive, but they're extremely reluctant to consider it. The catch with their scripted societal norms is that they haven't really evolved in centuries/millennia. So e.g., they have military protocols that were once very efficient but are now outdated and/or won't work well with their current population makeup. They're also not ready for diplomatic communications with new nations because there's no precedent for that.
P.S. tried to join the Discord server but it says the invite is invalid.
