Change doesn't come easily for the people of this nation as it strays from the path of the ancestor, thus the age of steam came at great trepidation for the people of Basen. In tradition they still wear the furs of slain beasts and little in the way of clothing, to display their scars and tattoos proudly. As a people the Basenites look very much like the average human, both in height and weight as well as physical appearance which ranges from ruddy skin tones to pale pallors. A dominant trait in their society is green eyes or occasionally blue but rarely brown, and hair ranging from auburn to dark brown with blondes being a rare in Basen.
Age 50 Gender Male Sexual orientation Heterosexual Height 5'10" Weight 190lbs Body/30lbs Muscle
Brief Personality 'Live and let live.' is a common saying used by the Basenite, one that guides the nation in times of great peril. Since the founding of the kingdom it has been this way, and it will be until the end times. If his people were slaughtered without provocation, Yolaf would respond with brutal force as retribution for a crime against his people. He helps those who help his nation prosper as long as it doesn't conflict with his nations traditions or way of life. Strength(s)/enjoyment(s) - Yolaf enjoys good food, and good company often hosting great banquets. - Yolaf loves his people, and will go to great lengths to keep any and all from harm. - Yolaf also enjoys the thrill of the hunt despite the elders worrying for the kings safety. - Yolaf is honest and forthcoming, never hiding behind falsehoods. Weakness(es)/displeasement(s) - Yolaf is brash and foolhardy, often acting more than thinking. - Yolaf absolutely hates the taste of milk especially that of a Hexagoat. Abilities Low-light Vision [sup]Basenites have exceptionally good eyesight, able to see in dimly lit conditions although they can't make out colors in such light only shades of gray.[/sup] Cold Adaptation [sup]Basenites are extremely well adapted to enduring the hostile conditions of the frigid mountains, able to survive for extended periods of time in the wilderness of Basen. It is an inborn trait amongst Basenites from nearly centuries of living in the cold.[/sup] High Altitude Acclimation [sup]Living up high, in the halls under the mountains up high has made the Basenites naturally acclimatized to the altitude of the snow-capped mountaintops.[/sup] Weapon Proficiency (Axes & Swords) [sup]From a young age the king was taught to fight with a axe in hand, or a sword at his side. While not a master in the art of swordplay Yolaf is quite skilled with the axe, knowing the finer points of the weapons usefulness in the thick of battle.[/sup] Controlled Heart Rate [sup]Basenites trained their hunters for generations in the way of slowing one's own heart beat, it helped them survive on dangerous hunts to avoid detection from predatory beasts and the like.[/sup] Background Yolaf's father Hans was one of Basen's finest hunters, and beloved by his people. Hans took his son and sole heir to the throne on hunts to teach him to fight much to the chagrin of his mother Josephina, whom gave birth to their son upon the day of the winter solstice. Yolaf's early to late childhood was too short for the boy, as with all children in Basen but it turned him into the man he is today in a way it hardened him.
