That's correct.  While there is an underlying narrative, your characters do not necessarily have to follow it.  They are free to interact however they wish with the main setting.  Likewise, if you do want to follow the main story and have your characters involved, feel free to.

I intended for this to be more freeform and sandbox in nature instead of having it rigidly structured.
