Devika noted her confusion and smiled apologetically. "I'm an empath. I exude emotions and other people can feel them. I think animals can feel it well, too, but perhaps a lot stronger. They dislike it, I think. They stay away from me."

Kijani let out a faint snort. "I figured you and Sue were..." She paused to think of a word. "Intimate. But that's none of my business." A slight frown crossed her face. "You have... tigers?
