[b]NAME:[/b] Takahashi Jin

[b]APPEARANCE DETAILS:[/b] Jin is about 4’11 and very petite, and of African-American and Japanese descent. She has dark brown eyes, and her skin is a warm brown. Her hair is a wavy black in a short, masculine cut. Outside of school, she tends to wear loose, boyish clothing that provides ease of movement.

[b]PERSONALITY:[/b] Jin seems abrasive at first. She’s loud, rash, and speaks her mind. Most people don’t get far enough with her to see the brilliance behind the brashness. Despite people thinking she’s a delinquent, Jin is very intelligent, with her test grades (especially in Math and English) being some of the highest in the school. Given the opportunity to unveil her true self, other students would find a sharp-minded and loyal person behind all the bluster.

[b]SHORT BIOGRAPHY:[/b] Jin’s parents, Richard and Yumiko, met at an international university in a political science course. Despite a myriad of personal, cultural and social differences, they fell tumbling into love and married after graduation. Richard became a detective and Yumiko worked with  the city’s mayor. They were happy and successful, and together nearly 7 years before having a bouncing baby girl named Jinayah.

Another 5 years saw tragedy strike. A break in occurred at their home one winter night, and Richard and Yumiko were found dead, shot by an unknown assailant. Their daughter, who had just started kindergarten, found huddled in a closet. With her father having no living relatives in America, Jin was sent overseas to live with her mother’s brother, Takahashi Tairo. 

Jin’s uncle Tairo, and aunt Misaki were both happy to take in their niece, and yet hurt by the circumstances. They did their best with the little girl and tried to help her fit in. They changed her name officially to her their family name, they took her to theme parks and festivals, and tried to be the best parents they could. It took a very long time for Jin to be able to open up and trust again.

Jin was never quite sure of the first time she understood she was different. Maybe it was elementary, in a class photo, where she was far too easy to pick out. Maybe one summer when someone told her that she didn’t have to worry about tanning, or when she overheard someone referring to her as “Hafu” for the first time, and she had to go home and look it up online. 

Whatever the cause, her personality shifted dramatically in her first year of middle school. She went from trying to fit in to actively going against the grain. She began acting out, getting into spats with fellow students, and staying out late at night. Currently, Jin’s aunt and uncle are trying to put her back on the correct path – hopefully before it’s too late to apply for university. 

The Prime Minister’s suicide was shocking to Jin, having seen it on Youtube, but it quickly wore off. Jin feels that politics doesn’t really matter to them in the long run, and that nothing will really change. For now, Jin has to start deciding what she wants from the future.

[b]TRIVIA:[/b] Jin fixes computers, phones, and other mechanics in her spare time, and is putting away a lot of money. What it’s for is Jin’s business. She’s almost never without some kind of snack, as her metabolism is high.
