She will give every possible effort to preserve the lives of her comrades, but she is pragmatic enough to abandon them if it might cost her life otherwise. Kasumi is an individual with a mind towards peace; though one wouldn't know it. Just as her primary elemental affinity is presented as Water, she is highly flexible in every situation, willing to do whatever must be done to achieve success. She is willing to set aside her morals for sake of survival, and despite her guilt, she will nonetheless follow orders to the letter. In life, she seeks the smoothest path towards optimized success with the ultimate goal of a peaceful life for herself. Despite this, she is not needlessly cruel. She despises waste in all forms, and she considers death itself to be an innate waste of "human resources" when a person could instead be repurposed for science or turned to her own cause. At the end of the day, she despises war and violence and wishes she could cut both out of her life and retreat into a quiet one of research and personal cultivation. That said, Kasumi despises the concept of "reoccurring enemies", and when it comes to choosing between her morals or nipping future trouble in the bud, she is utterly ruthless in the elimination of her foes. She considers talking to your enemies to be either a sign of abject weakness or great strength. In turn, she prefers to forgo talking until she has already won. Words are worthless to those she intends to kill after all. Kasumi's creativity and outside the box thinking lend themselves well to her study of Jutsu. In general, despite the breadth of possibilities, Kasumi prefers to take a precious comparatively few techniques and master them to the highest degree until she can maximize chakra efficiency and perform them without hand-seals. In particular, outside of Medical Jutsu, she practically specializes in the usage of the Academy Three and mere chakra-control exercises, stretching the limits of their ability to the furthest that can be managed and then twisting them into one of the most obnoxious and insultingly effective fighting styles in the land. Further, rather than methods of mass destruction and death, she finds far more value in shoring up weaknesses and attempting to make herself resistant to as many hostile effects as possible. In her mind, being able to avoid harm is far more important by any metric than being able to deal it; after all, so long as you survive, eventually, inevitably, your offense shall become sufficient in turn, and such things are useless if you don't live long enough to obtain or utilize them. However, due to her largely self-imposed isolation for the purposes of self-improvement and avoiding notice, Kasumi lags behind socially. In terms of being a "people person" she is most decidedly not. Crowds and attention make her anxious, and she tends to default to silence whenever put on the spot. When she isn't, she's defaulting to a humorless blunt cadence, often blurting things out with ruthless objectivity. To say the least, this demeanor doesn't win her many friends, but that isn't to say that her charisma is complete dogshit. On an objective scale, she has the technical knowledge to lead, but she lacks the fiery passion to draw others into her orbit long-term. She's an igniter, but continuing to stoke the flames and lead the charge is something she struggles with, loathing the idea of others looking to her for guidance. At the end of the day, Kasumi has an understanding that her actions are often immoral, and she actively wishes to obtain a life where she will no longer be forced to take them. And while she has little attachment to the Nakano Clan as a whole, her mother has her love and gratitude. Kasumi desires peace but prepares for war. She feels detached and alone in a sea of warmongers, and though it may sound idealistic, she wishes everyone could just get along.

[sub]Effect[/sub]

Born to a single mother in the civilian Clan of Nakano, Kasumi was an odd child from day one. As she grew, her mother, the lone first-generation shinobi in the clan and a med-nin of some exceptional talent, raised her in the manner of a shinobi child. "If you desire peace, prepare for war," she was told, and Kasumi took those words to heart. As she grew, some oddities arose. Her Fire jutsu looked strange, and so her mother insisted she never use them; it would only be once she grew older that she understood. Her Yin chakra was also decidedly unbalanced, causing her to mentally mature and learn in a manner that was frankly prodigal... at the cost of giving her some Chakra control issues. Annoyed, from very young, she was already throwing herself into physical training to close the gap, something that would result in her having abnormal physical prowess down the line. In combination with her mother's teachings in medical ninjutsu, her Chakra control skyrocketed, and by the time she graduated the Ninja Academy, it could perhaps exaggeratively be described as "perfect". As Moonfall occurred, it was during this time that she awakened her Sharingan and confirmed once and for all what she already suspected. Between her strangely-colored fire, her dark hair and coal-black eyes, it was clear that she was an illegitimate child of an Uchiha. Luckily, at her mother's insistence on the measure of caution, Kasumi had made a reputation for constantly practicing the Academy Basics, nearly always operating while under a Henge of some kind. Because of this, when her Sharingan awakened, it was entirely concealed and would remain so for the course of her shinobi career... a very excruciatingly cautious career, much to the chagrin of her team. Kasumi had no desire for fame, glory or power except where it could preserve her peaceful life, and so, she had no serious motivation to graduate from Genin to Chunin, perfectly content to continue her personal training and quietly hoard away more techniques using her Sharingan. She much preferred being underestimated and didn't really care what others thought about it, which resulted in her not ranking up till years down the line. While she wasn't all that interested in the man that had abandoned her and her mother, Kasumi eventually felt she had to ask, if for no other reason than to be prepared for something to come bite her in the ass later. Her mother, somewhat aware of the issues Kasumi's reticence to graduate might cause them in -ironically- drawing attention to how much she didn't want to rank up, told her to become a Chunin first, and her reward would be that knowledge. Genuinely intrigued now, Kasumi chose not to use her Sharingan to simply pilfer the information and undertook her mother's quest with enthusiasm. To her own surprise, she crushed it, to a startling and unfortunately attention-grabbing degree. Utilizing only the mastered Academy Basics, explosive tags and medical jutsu, Kasumi stood head and shoulders over much of the competition to a level that was rather insulting, even literally in some cases, considering that she was age 16 at the time. She hadn't really considered how odd she'd look taking the exam so late and winning without using the flashy jutsu her opponents were throwing around, but unfortunately, by the time all was said and done, there was nothing she could do to mitigate the attention she now held. Truly, the irony of the modern ninja system, where using less is somehow more remarkable than using more. The revelation of who her father was in the aftermath of her promotion left the girl with mixed feelings, but ultimately, she settled on some mixture of wariness, disappointment, apathy and gratitude, much relieved to have miraculously avoided that familial clusterfuck. Going forward, Kasumi found, to her chagrin, that her unintentional show in the exams had gotten her noticed, and now she was being paid far more unwanted attention and sent on far more sensitive and dangerous missions, despite her rank. Hoping to counter this, she decided to get involved in Konoha's Research and Development sector, using her Medical Ninjutsu background as a gateway into the profession. Over the next few years, she developed a vast scientific base to compliment her other skills. Unfortunately, her competence here too saw her pulled deeper and deeper into the underbelly of Konoha's research, and she was soon reluctantly involved with far more questionable and immoral endeavors. All she was able to do during this time was do her best to ensure as many successes and fewest casualties as possible, internally seething all the while, as she developed a grudge against the cruel shinobi system as a whole and the Hokage that callously supported it. Maybe it was naive of her to expect better, but somehow, the socially disconnected girl found herself unpleasantly shocked by it all. Regardless of her preferred isolation, she was, after all, a dog of Konoha, a soldier who didn't ask ask anything but "how high" when told to jump. To discover this side of the village wore away at and eventually shattered her indoctrination. Once more, Kasumi sought to downplay her skills as much as possible to avoid the battlefield... to mixed success, and during this time, she developed her poison resistances and created a variant Genjutsu to awaken her Mangekyo Sharingan, even as she continued to train and develop her skills and chakra capacity in private with Shadow Clones. Even so, she couldn't stop her string of successes from speaking louder than flashy jutsu and boldness ever could. And despite going out of her way to avoid actively seeking promotion, she soon found herself forcibly saddled with the rank and reputation of Special Jounin by the Hokage directly. She could only seethe inwardly, as the seed of rebellion continued to fester within... Her loathing simmered greater for the simple reason that this single act doomed her overall plans for her life instantly and near irrevocably. Even if she tried -and succeeded at- hiding much of her skills, just having that rank at all meant she was now getting drafted for tons of dangerous missions, regardless of what anyone assumed about her overall skillset. Just having the label of Special Jounin (apparently a bigger deal than a regular one) near completely shattered her anonymity, and in a military dictatorship like Konoha, she really never had any option to decline Jounin-level assignments. As far as the higher ups were concerned, only results mattered, and she was getting them. She may have desired to stay isolated, but in that respect, she only succeeded socially/emotionally. In nearly all others, she failed completely, a "suffering from success" scenario, where she was effectively locked into constantly being chosen and sent out on dangerous tasks just due to constantly getting the job done with generally minimal casualties. It was here that Kasumi subconsciously internalized a dangerous truth: her dream of a peaceful life was impossible in Konoha. Such thoughts were treasonous, the sort that could invite disaster to herself and her family, and so, she refrained from acknowledging them actively for all too long a time. And yet... it would be in accepting those realities that would drive her to eventually join the Central Uprising. Perhaps, she recognized even back then on a subconscious level her future betrayal and was preparing for it. Within her mind was beginning to fester a despair at the stagnation and hopelessness of her situation, as her mind began to peel away the layers from her naive worldview, to shatter her rose-tinted optimism. She soon came to realize that her betrayal of and defection from Konoha were inevitable. It was simply unsustainable to pursue her goals as a dog of the Leaf. She knew she had been societally brainwashed before to some degree, and she had no desire to relapse into Stockholm Syndrome by trying her luck. And so, Kasumi began to claw for the knowledge of the greatest and most forbidden of medical techniques... resurrection... immortality. She sought the power to keep everything she knew and loved from being stolen from her once her inevitable betrayal occurred. She sought the methods by which her mother could be protected from the backlash of her actions. She needed a way to stop the person she cared about most from dying. And more than that... the business of being a shinobi was to kill... Therefore, were she to focus instead on bringing life, would that not be a way by which she could overturn that system? Would that not be the path to true peace? For surely, if no-one could die... then no-one would kill. It was a naive dream, an impossible one many might say, rightly so even, but Kasumi was lured by the promise of every revolutionary and inventor before her, all those who dreamt of and pursued what was considered in their own times to be impossible. So, even if she might never effect change on a wide scale, was there truly anything wrong with making the attempt? After all, even if she only managed something small-scale, that would be more than enough for herself and her mother. Thus, using her Mangekyo Sharingan, she began to secretly pilfer the knowledge of her coworkers, rapidly filling gaps in her knowledge and tucking away classified secret after secret... and discovering all the while the further depths of shinobi depravity that the long-time Hokage allowed to persist. She delved into the reincarnation series of techniques, observing their costs and benefits, and she used Shadow Clones to fake her presence while sending her real body outside the village to search through ruins and libraries, hunting down and hoarding knowledge from far and wide regarding the medical field and the manipulation of life. And then, one day, when researching lost knowledge dating back to the 4th Great Shinobi War, she hit paydirt... She had been studying fuinjutsu, but it was on this day and for some time after that she received her greatest test using it. Her awareness of the intricacies of the art had revealed to her on this particular expedition a heavily fuinjutsu-trapped lair, an underground cavern complex, collapsed partially or in whole in many places. It was only between her fuinjutsu and earth Hiding techniques that exploration was even possible at all and wasn't outright lethal. And it was most certainly not the work of a single day. Multiple times, she suffered serious injury and near chakra exhaustion from having to heal herself afterwards and retreat. Whoever the former master of the cave had been, they were both creative and cruel in equal measure. Given her heavy schedule as a Special Jounin and member of the R&D Core, Kasumi was not often able to visit her new great trial, even with Shadow Clones to run interference. As a result, it took her a full two months to safely clear the ancient lair... and to walk away with the knowledge contained within. The Corpse Reincarnation series of techniques, forbidden jutsu that allowed the dead to rise at the cost of the living. They were vile... but they worked... to a degree, allowing the user to exchange their enemies for allies, a trade she knew many ruthless shinobi would be more than happy to make. This knowledge, now unearthed, was something she knew she was best off not spreading around... or even using at all for that matter, given how atrocious it was on an objective moral scale. It was a technique she never wanted to use, and yet, she knew that now that she had the knowledge, the temptation to put it into practice would be... overwhelming in the long term. It was a truly sinister technique, one that blackened the user's morals in ways few other techniques did. Kasumi now had a new reason to seek a true resurrection technique. For now, she sought a way to do what the Edo Tensei did without the horrific cost... a way to stop herself from becoming someone and something more monstrous than any of the Shinobi she had long come to look down on. And yet... Kasumi couldn't help but be fascinated and excited... for she knew that she had taken it, the first true step to accomplishing her dream. She had within her hands the foundation of the future. All that was left... was to build it.

Attributes
[Sub]Talents [/sub]
[sub]Kata[/sub]
Anything Goes: Kasumi's Taijutsu "style" is highly unconventional, and it is an aspect of her arsenal that she feels absolutely no shame using her Sharingan to pilfer for... when she isn't just abandoning form and technique entirely, relying on the principle of an untrained person often being more dangerous than a trained one to catch her opponents off guard. She has no set style, instead utilizing a highly free-form, self-taught methodology that incorporates anything she sees that she finds useful or which she simply makes up on the fly. Her form is ever-changing and loose, jittering between vastly divorced disciplines as easily as she breathes. As a result, she tends to be highly unpredictable and unconventional. However, from amongst her pilfered and slap-dash arsenal, Kasumi seemingly favors that which leans more evasive and indirect, preferring to chip away at her opponents, luring them into a false sense of security, as they are inexorably worn down... before making a single decisive killing blow... when she doesn't have the opportunity to simply lead with the latter.
[sub]Non-combat[/sub]
Biochemistry: Kasumi has long studied biology as a means towards the end of her development of toxins and immunities to them. She is familiar with some of the most scientifically advanced and morally depraved technology and advancements in the land and has a general awareness of and ability to modify cells and genetics, assuming she is given proper facilities and time to work with. Even without such facilities, she is fully capable of field surgeries and can perform them with basic tools and chakra. Her scientific acumen and talent is on par with the likes of dedicated monsters of the Art, like Tsunade and Orochimaru. Cooking: Given that preparing food is basically just edible chemistry, a scientist of Kasumi's caliber has something of a talent for it... when she can be bothered. Those that find themselves supping of her home cooking will be pleasantly surprised.
[sub]Ninjatology[/sub]
Ninjutsu: Chakra-based manipulation of reality. Kasumi is a veritable savant at using and manipulating chakra, not just mastering new jutsu quickly, but twisting or altering them to her own purposes. Her Sharingan greatly aids in this endeavor. Fuinjutsu: The art of using chakra to create programmed spell matrixes. Kasumi can create a variety of seals from ink, blood and chakra, among which are the ever-popular Explosive seals, Storage seals, Paralysis seals, Chakra draining seals, and the Yin-style Strength of a Hundred Medical seal. She can make seals using pure chakra on touch if she has enough mastery of a particular one. Mostly, this amounts to Explosive seals, but if she has a bit longer, Paralysis and Chakra draining ones are on the table. She is familiar with a number of summoning techniques; however, she doesn't possess a proper summoning contract. Absurd Pain Tolerance/Willpower: The work of a shinobi is not for the faint of heart, especially for a member of the science core, and Kasumi has learned to put up with all-consuming agony in the face of developing poison immunities. Further, as she prefers not to gamble with the lives of others needlessly, she has performed much of her Medical Jutsu practice on herself, deliberately inflicting injuries and then learning through trial by fire. Poison Resistance: With access to the scientific facilities of the village and the Nakano Clan, getting one's hands on various means of chemical suffering and death is hardly difficult. Kasumi has long sought to remove as many of these poisons as possible as threats to her, and she has been carefully developing resistences over the years through non-lethal doses when she is not needed for missions. By now, the vast majority of poisons from across the nations have been rendered relatively ineffective enough that she can power through and survive them with only her body's antibodies. In the case that she can't, at minimum, her body can typically stave off the effects long enough for her to apply Medical ninjutsu to herself. Genjutsu Dispellment: There is a special kind of discomfort Kasumi finds in considering the concept of Genjutsu and how they can wrest her of her senses; as such, she found herself motivated to counter them in particular. Despite that, she's put far less effort into this than her specialities, as her Sharingan tends to compensate greatly even without formal training. Delicate Chakra Control: Even a standard Med-nin must possess extraordinarily fine manipulation of their Chakra. For someone who has delved with a passion even further into the depths of biology and the core basic principles of Chakra usage, Kasumi's control is exceptional by any metric, well above most other Med-nins. Indeed, it can easily be referred to generally as "perfect". Sizable Chakra Capacity: As a result of using Shadow Clones regularly to train, study and gain extra manpower during her experiments, Kasumi has a fairly impressive capacity that has been further exercised by her constant intensive usage of Medical Jutsu. She can easily compete with most Jounin in reserves but is still fairly outpaced by the best of the best chakra monsters like Kages. However, her preference for low cost Jutsu tends to stretch her reserves out long enough to fight just as much as even those that conventionally outclass her. Good Physical Prowess (agility, endurance & stamina): In the course of physically training to overcome her natural imbalance of Yin chakra, Kasumi, has achieved a respectable level of physical acuity. Physically, Kasumi is, however a woman, and this does limit her maximum potential, strength-wise. She tends far more towards the agile/flexible end than the durable/strong end. Her stamina/cardio, regardless, is okay, but she favors short bursts of skirmishing over long drawn out slug-fests. As a result of the latter, she is a Sensor, and her Spiritual Energy/Yin Chakra was naturally unbalanced from birth, causing her to learn and mature mentally far more quickly. [*]--Spiritcaller: A strange ability that allows the dead to be drawn back to the land of the living as spirits bound to the spiritually sensitive. Fullbring humans are more innately aware of the spirits and are thus typically able to interact with and call upon them to some degree or another. The spirits rely heavily upon the Yang chakra of their summoner to persist, and they tend to be greatly weakened by being called forth in greater numbers. A more powerful spirit may even need "chakra exchanges" often to continue operating at peak ability if maintained long-term. Typically, the drain is so bad that even the greatest practitioners can only call forth 8 spirits at once, and summoning them in any sort of practical manner relies on a catalyst, like a favored weapon or object, such as a spellbook. Kasumi, however, has no such catalyst or any idea that she might need one, nor a teacher to correct her self-education. Her draw upon this power is through trial, error, concentration and far too much brute force, as she instinctively uses her own body as the catalyst, performing summonings through intensive rituals. As a result, calling forth spirits on the battlefield is basically impossible for her, and the number she can maintain without disrupting her preexisting connections is slashed in half. In compensation, however, using her own body as the direct medium by which her spirits persist gives her a much closer connection to them, allowing her to more easily transfer chakra to them remotely without a "chakra exchange" ritual. Her direct control too, should she wish to exert it, is much firmer. On a mercantile level, the Nakano specialize in the production of poisons and antidotes. They also dabble in the work of proper chakra-less doctors, performing surgical procedures and crafting remedies for common illnesses. As the vast majority of them have untrained chakra reserves, their capacity to utilize even what little they do know is further still limited, but they are nonetheless one of the go-to people for the average citizen when it comes to treating severe wounds. In a pinch, even Shinobi may utilize their services if a proper Medical Ninja is unavailable. After all, when the choice is them or possible death, just about anything is better than nothing at all. Kasumi's access to their science-based medical facilities has vastly aided in the expansion of her mastery of medical jutsu and the theory behind developing more or altering current ones. Her mother's medical jutsu specialty aided in giving her an extremely strong base to work up from at a very young age, resulting in the abject prodigy and scientific genius she is today. themselves with a target. This effect occurs so instantaneously that it creates an optical illusion, often fooling the attacker into thinking they hit. Despite popular belief, this technique doesn't require any manner of preprepared object (though one that is marked ahead of time is perfectly viable), nor is it incapable of affecting living beings (despite either ignorance or propaganda). Kasumi near instantly realized the technique's true power, and it is practically her signature move. While she can and does use the regular version often enough, with her variant, she can swap herself with nearly anything and anyone, stationary or moving, at will and without hand-seals. It is one of her most mastered techniques, allowing her to perform a bastardized version of the Flying Thunder God jutsu at far lower chakra cost... assuming similar size. The more egregious the size difference between Kasumi and a target, the greater the chakra cost. Further, this variant is extremely mentally straining, requiring that the mental equivalent of rocket science be performed to pull it off. To say the least, this makes the technique incredibly unviable except in brief bursts. Excessive usage in quick succession may even cause brain damage. Furthermore, even for Kasumi, the calculations required are lengthy enough that she can only pull it off in heated combat viably while using the enhanced perceptions of her Sharingan. Lastly, unlike the regular Kawarimi, Kasumi must either have visual sight of her target or have them marked with chakra. To say the least, in summary, there is a damn good reason Minato used precalculated seals for the Flying Thunder God. Space-time techniques don't screw around. Both versions of this technique interact badly with the chakra-dense Susanoo, causing a Kawarimi while using it to be truly astronomical in cost, to genuinely unviable levels. In that case, it becomes a matter of gambling on whether dodging or tanking the hit is better, but both at once is expensive to a degree Kasumi finds wholly intolerable. Transformation/Henge: Allows the user to assume another form, complete with every physical attribute (ie sharpness of a blade or fang). Though, the more diverged from human it is, the more difficult. They can become another person, creature or inanimate object of generally similar size, and the transformation lasts until the user chooses to dispel it or is rendered unconscious. Kasumi has mastered this underrated technique to the point of being able to perform it at will without hand-seals. She most often uses this technique for reconnaissance, hiding in plain sight, or retreating. Her mastery in using it nearly 24/7 to hide her Sharingan has grown to such a level that the technique is now maintained by muscle/chakra memory, remaining even when she is unconscious or asleep. It is extremely physical and acts as a blurring chakra shield that keeps it from being apparent that she's using a doujustu beneath it, not even to the likes of the Sharingan or Byakugan. This doesn't stop them from seeing her chakra tenketsu and such of course. Rather, it's obvious to the Sharingan and the like that she is, indeed, using a Transformation, due to the chakra infusing her form, but what is concealed beneath is firmly out of sight. Even if they ask her to drop it occasionally for security reasons, she cares little as long as that means she has the warning she needs to shut off her Sharingan. However, as her specialty is more stealth/concealment focused in this respect, her actual skill in serious shapeshifting lags behind. The maximum size and approximate complexity discrepancy she can thus achieve is that of a dog. Clone/Bunshin-Bunshin Blur Variant: The base of this Jutsu is a purely illusory clone with no ability to affect anything, and said technique is usually quite easily seen through and good for little more than creating distracting afterimages or confusing opponents. In order to limit her enemy's ability to see through them, Kasumi prefers to take advantage of the purely illusory nature of the clones and overlay multiple in her personal space, having them all perform different actions in Taijutsu in order to conceal her true attacks. As with Kawarimi and Henge, she has not skimped on learning to perform this technique without hand-seals. Surface-Walking Upon the Air: A natural extension of surface walking beyond solids and liquids to “walk” on air. More accurately perhaps, it is rather like jumping/kicking/pushing off it instead. This iteration doesn’t use Wind natured chakra, so without that mastery, Kasumi currently can’t very well take it further than “solidifying” a portion of the air briefly enough to use as a platform. After all, just solidifying a portion doesn’t mean it’s anchored in place to the rest of the air. Demonic Sharingan Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique, Mangekyo Awakening (A-Rank): A far more powerful custom variant cast using the Sharingan. The Genjutsu is designed specifically for use with Uchiha to induce the mental and physical stress required to awaken a Mangekyo Sharingan. The Genjustu suppresses the use of the target's ability to activate their Sharingan, except during the most high stress moments, selling the illusion and preventing them from accidentally breaking out until the jutsu's primary purpose is accomplished. Given that this variant was specifically designed to work on Kasumi herself, it may be less effective or worthless on other Uchiha without adjustment for a specific individual. Hiding in the Poison Mist (B rank) (UNUSABLE/IN DEVELOPMENT): Drawing upon her knowledge of the Poison Mist and Hiding in Mist jutsu, Kasumi seeks to find a balanced technique with less of the inherent friendly fire and nicheness of the former. In theory, the jutsu would allow her to create a highly diluted poison mist, one that hinders sight and over the course of 10 minutes or longer inflicts the effects of a non-lethal poison that Kasumi already has resistance to. With the range and mobility of the Hiding in Mist and the chemical flexibility of the Poison Mist combined, the concept has distinct promise. In practice, however, inventing an entirely new jutsu is a fair bit more complicated than just expanding an existing one.

[sub]Theme[/sub]
