Danny's inner calm was compromised by the tension and passive aggressive barbs being thrown on the trip. Intra-team conflicts made him nervous. Even worse was that Carol was doing the sanctimonious "I'm an inspiring hero!" thing that she was trying on. Danny wanted to point out that it wasn't it wasn't nearly so inspiring since she had been on the [i]wrong[/i] side of two Avengers schisms, while he had definitely been on the [i]right[/i] side, but he had never given himself airs. He resisted the urge.

He expected that this was the moment where he was supposed to break the tension with a sly joke, but nothing came to mind. Why wasn't Spider-Man saying anything? He was great with jokes. [i]Come on, Spider-Man, say something funny,[/i] Danny thought.
