Billy hates confrontation, and probably deflected all "What's [i]your[/i] problem with [i]me[/i]?" 

Instead of admitting that he thinks Connor's jokes are mean and that the jock crowd kind of sucks. 

Weirdly enough, I think this leads to them being pretty civil to each other(if not necessarily close or friendly) for the last year or so at school.
