I even ran into a wall with that when trying to write Bruce Wayne. But Marc is a pretty fascinating character to pluck out of his prior origin period due to two things, his nature as a soldier-turned-mercenary and his struggle with Dissociative Identity Disorder. In trying to figure out how to slowly build to Moon Knight from a base level, I imagined a scenerio where instead of simply being a gun for hire who winds up betrayed by his superior officer, he's recruited into a shadowy organization that looks to manipulate his condition and trick him into carrying out missions that are beyond morally questionable. In that way, it expands his horizons as a character and gives him more weight going into taking up the cape and shroud. I also wanted a chance to write an extensive supporting cast, but no prior team really fit what I was looking for... which is why I decided on Checkmate, since there is no set roster for that and I can incorporate both the DC and Marvel stables believably.

[SUP][SUB]
C H A R A C T E R N O T E S :
[/SUB][/SUP]

Maxwell Lord - Black King Jessica Drew - White Queen Wendy Harris - Black Bishop Jean-Paul DuChamp - White Bishop Christopher Chance - Black Knight Marc Spector - White Knight Christopher Smith - Black Rook Yelena Belova - White Rook Eve Eden - Black Rook Wade Wilson - White Rook Marcus Johnson Thomas Tresser Clay Quartermain Kate Spencer - Pawns

[SUP][SUB]
S A M P L E P O S T :
[/SUB][/SUP]

A sample post that can be used in the IC if you so desire upon acceptance. It came with the territory of being the son of a celebrated test pilot, but that feeling only solidified whenever he watched Martin Jordan's fighter jet violently crash and explode after an emergency landing. Reckless and arrogant as he grew into adulthood, Hal took up his late father's profession as a test pilot in strict defiance of his long-suffering family's wishes, looking to push himself so far ahead in the field of aviation that no one would ever look at him and think of his father's accident again. Which is why whenever he got too cocky for Ferris Aerospace to insure, striking back at his superiors at every turn for questioning his daredevil antics, he suffered the ultimate humiliation: a demotion to radar technician. Jordan was officially grounded with no hope of returning to the skies, and it was during this low point of his life that he alone would witness the impossible - shrouded in brilliant emerald light, a burning spacecraft jettisoned across the Ferris tarmac and shot into the canyon beyond, disappearing as quickly as it had appeared. Knowing that no one would believe him if he claimed to see it, Hal took off in the direction of the ship on his motorcycle and quickly tracked the wreckage just after landfall. Discovering a creature moving inside, he was shocked to discover that it was humanoid in appearance, save for the deep purple skin - and was gravely injured. Despite appearing weak, the alien handed Hal what appeared to be a large battery and pointed at its glowing core. The moment that the Earthman gazed into it, he began to hear a voice calling out, telling him that he had been chosen to succeed Abin Sur, the Lantern designated to Sector 2814. And to speak a mantra. "In brightest day,", Hal Jordan repeated, eyes brightly glowing. "In blackest night. No evil shall escape my sight..." Once upon a time, Oliver Queen didn't give a damn about anything. The spoiled son of Robert and Moira Queen, his aspirations had usually involved whether or not he could get drunk before nine in the morning and whether or not he could bed a woman before midnight. But fate had other plans for Oliver in the form of a disastrous shipwreck, with the Queen's Gambit capsizing near the coast of the uninhabited island known as Lian Yu. Despite being present at an onboard party of hundreds of people, including his father, Oliver washed up ashore on the island alone, with no way of contacting the outside world. He also didn't have any means of feeding himself, and as days of mindless panic subsided, Queen quickly realized that if he didn't start to hunt for sustenance, he would die. Even after spending every waking moment of his adulthood in the pursuit of selfish conquest, Oliver Queen made a fateful decision: to fight like hell and survive. After failing to capture much of anything on his own, Oliver eventually fashioned a makeshift bow out of the branches, twigs, and rocks available. Desperate to keep himself from succumbing to malnutrition, he began to focus on nothing but practicing with the weapon, carving up an arsenal of arrows in a single afternoon. It took work, and there were plenty of false starts. But within a month, Oliver was regularly making bullseyes. Within two months, he had made himself a makeshift shack. And within seven months, the heavily bearded Oliver Queen was discovered by a passing ship on its way to Madripoor, wrapped in tattered clothing and brandishing an improved bow with a fashioned quiver - but still very much alive. Returning to Star City completely changed, Oliver began to see issues in the world from the side of those that society had overlooked. The innocent people who had been dealt a raw hand, often turned to crime to sustain themselves and survive. Now knowing how that felt, Queen began to become outspoken in his need to give back to the community and give others a fighting chance. This change of heart turned the board of directors at Queen Consolidated against him, who promptly ousted their former CEO's son under the guise of protecting Robert Queen's legacy. Deciding that he didn't need or even want the permission of the one percent who had allowed Star City to fall into a state of disrepair in the first place, Oliver decided to use what was left of his fortune to do some good. But with crime rampant on the streets, that good would involve taking up a bow and arrow once again, disguising himself with a domino mask and false goatee, and taking the fight to the criminals that preyed on the defenseless. He was about to become to Star City what Robin Hood and his Merry Men had been to Nottingham: someone who would gladly tip the scales back. With Hal's ring granting him unparalleled power and a responsibility to protect Earth against a variety of threats, The Green Lantern finds himself patrolling the skies of Star City just weeks after his anointment into the Corps, tracking an alien energy signature that could potentially lead to Abin Sur's killer. And while in pursuit of a dangerous assassin calling himself The Taskmaster, The Green Arrow is shaking loose the training wheels of his initial few outings - unaware that he's about to cross paths with a glowing space cop that could use his own swift lesson in humility.

[sub][sup][sub]
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
[/sub][/sup][/sub]
[sup]________________________________________________________________________________________[/sup]
Put simply, Hal and Ollie are one of the best hero duos in comics. Literally the definition of "good cop/bad cop" in some respects, they clash ideologically just as much as they believe in the pursuit of justice. While I don't intend to go full-on Hard Travelling Heroes with them (at least, maybe not yet), I very much want to explore how two heroes of polar opposite viewpoints can learn to both get along and help eachother be better than either is at the outset. I also want to use the opportunity for them to interact with other players, exploring them as individuals. Hal lends himself to missions of a cosmic variety, while Ollie is definitely the more street-level vigilante. You can do the math.
[/cell][/row]
