While I don't know the answer to most of this, I have a feeling that familiars will likely be reflavoured as mascots: in the Strixhaven setting, each of the schools have their mascots that be summoned. 

- For Lorehold, it's Spirits which inhabit statues or artifacts. 
- For Quandrix, it's Fractals which are animals formed from... well, fractals xD
- For Primsari, it's Elementals.
- For Silverquill, it's Inklings, tiny little being made of ink.
- For Witherbloom, it's Pests, which are ugly little guys that combine bug, reptile and amphibian traits. [s]Naturally, these are my favourite.[/s]

I'm going to assume that's what the familiars will be like, but from the opening post sounds like, some things will be changed from the Strixhaven setting so I might be wrong.
