Nova was a famous and beloved superhero, a household name in her time. Her real name, however, remains unknown to this day. She was found deceased after authorities responded to a call regarding heavy gun fire inside what was supposed to be an empty warehouse. Her cause of death was said to be multiple gunshot wounds, but the whole thing was kept pretty hush hush. There are no post-mortem pictures, or if there are, they are heavily guarded. Her funeral was closed casket. The general, and very morbid, belief was that there wasn't much left. 

Her powers drew from a unique energy that she could produce. She could create engery blasts or shields, fly, and even create small scale explosions should there be a need. However, Nova was always very careful to not cause too much collateral damage. The popular theory was that she was much more powerful than she let on. 

As far as her personal life goes, there is virtually no information available. If her true identity had ever been found out, it was never released. She was notoriously private when it came to anything outside of hero and humanitarian work.
