To be fair fantasy is a lot easier to pull off (and in turn a lot easier to screw up). I know a lot of fantasy works just come down to the whole "it's magic I ain't gotta explain shit" cliche as an excuse for things, which is why I feel people tend to be more comfortable with just jumping right in and writing "awful" fantasy.

But back to the point at hand: yeah, I don't really vibe with Sci-Fi, either. But not every genre has to be [i]for me[/i]; everyone has their own tastes and interests in regard to the media they consume.
