The animals, the organisms -- he knew what they felt and could speak directly to them. From Great Whites to clown fish to the algae to the dead corals in the reefs of Australia, Poseidon could feel all their love and pain. But this is no longer the case and where in fact he cannot hear all the whispers and musings of those that he once held dear to him, Poseidon can still feel the emotions carried through waves. It is not as far reaching, but anytime he is in water, within a three mile radius, he is able to hear and feel the cries and laughter of the sea. Creatures that have murder on their mind whether out of survival or being the alpha of the sea. In turn, this turned a once greedy, vengeful god into a more empathetic one with such a connection to the oceans that it fuels his potency for love, as well. Poseidon, God of the Sea. Poseidon... Eons ago, Poseidon was a different god. Whether it was the place he had within the Greek Pantheon of being second only to Zeus himself (third if you considered Hera the second), he enjoyed the power he held over the sea and many others up top of Mount Olympus. He was a greedy, vile, though sometimes forgiving god who often took sebaticals from his place among the Olympians. At some point, this god of the sea had his own kingdom -- the Kingdom of Atlantis where he didn't have to answer to nobody. Not his brothers. Not the Queen of Olympus. Nobody! In Atlantis, Poseidon was free to do what he wished to but it became boring. Unfulfillng. Even with Ampradite by his side, their many children, and a one-time affair and eventual budding friendship with Aphrodite afte rhe was the singular god to not make a joke out of her relationship with Ares, the God of War. But even that, as fortunate as he was to have Aphrodite in his bed or even when he took out his boredom and momentary ire for his son, Polyphemus's, injury. A case of Poseidon's petty, vindictive anger. Nothing that came to his attention brought him any fulfillment nor a sense of purpose beyond his domain and his underwater kingdom. At least that was the case until he sat upon his underwater throne, his wife by his side after forgiving him for his transgressions with the Greek Goddess of love, and heard the most omnious, wonderful sound. It was an intriguing voice, something he had not heard in all of his time of existing. Chaotic and distruptive, yet beautiful beyond any words a poet or scholar could produce. It was the voice of something that sounded so lonely, so eager for companionship. Poseidon, the God of the SEa, someone who could understand any and all aquatic lifeforms of any make from any distance, he must admit that it was difficult to understand this voice he heard in his head. It was not only difficult from an understanding perspective, but the language was not something he had studied extensively. But through the power of concentration, he eventually understood. The voice in his head that he heard was Jormungandr, a powerful serpent from the Norse Pantheon. The World-Snake, as it had been dubbed in many texts. And in this realization, Poseidon had finally found a purpose. It was singular and not something that he could properly explain, but perhaps in what felt like that missing piece in his existance, Poseidon enjoyed his conversations with the World-Snake. A creature whom he could call his friend, no matter the barriers that separated them. Just a century and a half and Poseidon, the great ruler of the sea, former King of Atlantis, second only to his brother, Zeus and one above his other brother, Hades, woke up from a chamber (or was it more like a pod)? Poseidon didn't know and still to the current day, he hasn't made much sense of it. He didn't know how he ended up in that pod. His memory was fuzzy in the beginning. All he knew for certain was that he was asleep for a long time, long enough to find that many other pods within...wherever he was , some have been opened and some remained closed. When he first left, Poseidon knew not what happened to him nor how he came to be in Athens. The irony of that moment was visibly irate that Poseidon grew the more he wondered the very town of Greece that he himself once fought, ruled, and looked after. Fought with Athena for its name sake but ruled in the shadows with her, but he had always held a personal attachment to it. So to see it suffer, to see it be in such a withered state, it angered Poseidon. He felt the rage of his former glory consume him but lacked the divinity to be able to do anyhting about it. What would do? In the past, wen Poseidon was angry, he let his fury out on those who were at sea. When his own son was injured, he took all of his wrath out on Odysseus, keeping him and his men out at sea for years. Yet as Poseidon realized he was no longer of the same power he once held at his fingertips. And it took him years to accept it. For that first decade, he lingered in Athens, lived among the people. Sadness and anger consumed him. Spending those years on the streets, Poseidon let it linger, let the negative thoughts and feelings fester until he started to grow tired of wallowing in this new dispair. Eventually he started to make use of this new normal. Over the next century, Poseidon started to leave a mark little by little on the world, or at least within the Mediterranean. From Greece to Italy to Morroco to even Israel, he tried to live a life. He was a sailor for a bit and a fisherman. His travels led him down the realization that, at some point, the mortals forgot to treasure the seas. CLimate change, something Poseidon was not made aware of for quite some time, had started to become something of a problem. As the Greek God of the Sea, no matter how much time had passed, Poseidon made it his mission to help where he could. In the beginning, he became a politician. Under the name Atlas Leventis, he worked towards environmental efforts, earning capital where he needed it, but politics felt too much like Mount Olympus and a familiar melancholy tok hold of him. About ten years ago, with a wealth that surpassed the hundred millions, Atlas Leventis (to the known world it was the third), he fell into a simpler life. Professor Atlas Leventis. Those who can't do, teach. And that's what he's been doing. All over the world in the best colleges, and universities, and even doing a stint at Nobel Peace Conferences. Poseidon has been doing it all. Some years he had missed the festivals in which all the gods gather to consume the Apple of the Great Tree. This may have cost him some years, but what he's been doing was more important to him. And maybe, somewhere deep inside, he longed to find his old friend, Jormungandr again. Somewhere. For now, he does what he can to raise awareness to climate change.[/sup]

[sup]

[sup]It might seem like a silly thing, but Poseidon just wants to be happy. He wants to be a good brother to Hades and Zeus. Hades, specifically, Poseidon has something of delayed guilt for how Zeus treated him. For how Poseidon treated him. But the most notable thing that Poseidon is ambitious about is to be better than he was before the fall. In whatever way that is possible, he just wants to be less vengeful, less greedy, and less petty than he was before he lost his divinity.
