Usually, it's a link with someone from a different plane altogether. That being said, there is a perception filter spell on all Keyblade weilders. It's why people don't question why you are a completely different species. Anthropomorphic ducks are not normal in Tarzan world, and yet nobody questions Donald's appearance.
