Due to their mutations, they are able to survive in the places with the most manarite. Most humans who have been exposed to manarite radiation for long periods of time have reverted to an animal state only living to extend manarite as living carriers but for every 100 Ghouls, a Forsaken with a “crown” is created. Different types of Ghouls exist as the radiation mutated each differently and that happens between the normal Forsaken with the exception of the “crown”. Initially it starts like a crystal lumb on their foreheads and as they grow older, the crystal keeps growing until it fully transforms the head into a razor-sharp crystal, their bodies soon follow. The “crowned” Forsaken can use their "crowns" to directly communicate through the Ghouls and even take control of them, while they are only able to communicate via mutated animals. The Forsaken/Ghouls require no food, nor water as they get all the nutrition they require from manarite. If kept away from manarite for a longer period of time, their bodies start to shrivel away and die, eventually becoming manarite themselves. The Forsaken naturally transform into manarite as they get older, finally becoming hardened crystals unable to move. Forever trapped inside their shells. A fate worse than death. The main downside of the Forsaken is their almost full-on lack of procreation abilities. Children are rare between the Forsaken as most are stillborn or die in the womb. Ghouls - Ghouls are humans or any of the other races which have succumbed to the manarite radiation. Their faces are deformed, bodies riddled with crystals. They live only for one purpose, to expand manarite. Their bodies emanate the same radiation which transformed them and every scratch/bite delivered to a non-Forsaken/Ghoul will speed up the process. Ghouls travel in herds but rarely stray away from where manarite can be found or they can be seen following the Forsaken as pets. Ghouls have lost any sense of being, only knowing their prime directive or what their Forsaken masters command them to do.
Governance & Politics: The Forsaken lived in tribes for a long period of time and while currently they live together, forming the first united nation of Forsaken, they're still attached to their tribal heritage. Each tribe is formed out of a maximum 100 members and they are led by a tribal leader which in turn are led by an overseer which can lead up to 20 tribes. They all are subjected to the law of the Harbinger. The Harbinger is the leader of the Forsaken, all following each and every one of their commands. Culture & Society: Much of the Forsaken culture started as a mix as each tribe is composed of people from all over the land shouded in legends of times before the manarite appeared. Every full moon, these stories are told usually by a designated member of each tribe meant to teach children about their past and how they arrived to be able to build their own city. Each tribe has a speciality which often depicts their mannerism, ways of talking, dressing etc but also their crafts. Some might be builders, some might be fighters and so the list goes on. What can be sure is that each person has a role in their society, a purpose that is given by their tribe leader and which they follow for the rest of their lives. Due to the rarity of children, the more magic-inclined tribes have been trying for many years to “cure” the Ghouls by implanting pieces of communicating crystals in their foreheads or different other methods hoping that one day, they will be cured. The Ghoul-tribes are known to keep Ghouls more than just for defence and they are using them as manual labour, house building and other tasks, they are known to be the best in controlling and commanding Ghouls. Magic & Technology: The technology/magic of the Forsaken is split in two depending on the tribe. Magic - Each of the northern tribes has a Manarite Whisperer with them. A Manarite Whisperer, MS for short, commands power over Manarite. They have developed the power to enhance its growth in targeted areas, make it explode or even heal injuries using it. The "crowned" Forsaken are also known to use their magic to tame different mutated animals and use them for a number of tasks. Technology - while remaining less technologically advanced than the other nations, the Forsaken have learned how to manipulate manarite crystals to build houses, tools and other similar things. One major accomplishment is the use of manarite to create "communication crystals", able to communicate at great distances as long as manarite grows in that area and the user has a crystal embedded in their "crown". Military Overview:The Forsaken employ guerrilla warfare when needed against potential invaders of their territory. Being immune to manarite radiation to a certain degree enables the Forsaken to use it to their advantage, occasionally using the precious material as bait for traps. Most of the Forsaken weapons are made of hardened manarite-wood or simply manarite sharpened to cut through armour. An important tactic of the Forsaken is the use of mutated animals or Ghouls in order for them to not lose their already small population.
History: The history of the Forsaken is not fully known even by themselves. Once, before manarite appeared, they were normal humans living all over the continent and then manarite appeared. Thousands of people started to feel the effects of manarite-radiation and turned into Ghouls and even more died in the first years. Eventually, after long periods of time, the Forsaken appeared. No one knows exactly when the mutation that allowed them to maintain sentience first started or how but it somehow did. Initially pockets of Forsaken could be found all over the continent, shunned by the non-Forsaken and unable to survive for long periods of time outside of manarite areas the Forsaken roamed all over the lands. Times passed and these Forsaken started to band together in tribes for protection against those who’d wish them harm and while also for sharing manarite which became highly sought after by the other nations of the world. These tribes were soon spread all over the continent but facing constant peril it seemed that the Forsaken would soon become extinct as people learned how to evade the worst brunt of manarite radiation. And then, the Call. A strong impulse to all of the Forsaken to travel to a place. No matter how many times some tried not to follow the impulse, it was all consuming. Similar to a migraine that never ended. A voice in their heads followed “Come. Safety. Promised.” and so the Exodus happened. Hundreds of thousands followed the Call, Ghouls in tow. When they arrived they found a manarite heaven. A group of islands which were devoid of the presence of the other nations, everything was consumed by the manarite. After settling the island, the Harbinger “showed” themselves. An ancient Forsaken, trapped inside a massive manarite crystal. Some called him a God, while others simply accepted him as the first true Forsaken. It was them that called all their brethren to come to the islands for salvation. How or why not even they know. As years passed, the Forsaken have united from minor tribes into a nation of their own. Every building and tribe surrounding the Harbringer’s crystal, forming a massive circle for their first city. The Ring. Additional Information: N/A for now.
