When a beautiful maiden descended from the sky, a mysterious island rose from the sea. The beautiful maiden was the benevolent goddess Benzaiten, and she made the island her home. When the dragon laid eyes on her, he was immediately enamored by her. Foolishly, the dragon fell deeply in love with her, and asked for her hand in marriage.

The goddess laughed in his face and rejected him almost immediately. Why, she asked, would she give her hand in marriage to a monster who had tormented the locals in her new home? Gozuru had no answer for her, and he changed his ways the very next day. He became her pet, and the powerful protector of the area. Benzaiten set up her home there, and decided she would only leave if she had no other choice.

Impressed by the way she had tamed a dragon almost effortlessly, Benzaiten quickly became the patron goddess of female entertainers, and they came to her island often. She taught them about the flow of love, and how they could use it to their advantage. The cave she had taken up as home became a shrine dedicated to her, with a pool of water that followers wash their money into to this day. It is said that if you do so, Benzaiten will bless you, and double your money and send you and your family into a long era of prosperity.[/sup][/color][/indent][/hider][/center]

It didn’t make much difference to her, she had been living with a steady flow of mortals on her island for so long that she didn’t see a change in [i]becoming[/i] a mortal. Of course, her followers didn’t see it the same way; without her powers, they hardly believed she had ever been their goddess. In fact, it was quite the opposite. They thought she had somehow killed their goddess and taken her place.

Bidding farewell to the land, Benzaiten had to sadly live the place she had called home for an eternity. Saddened by her departure, Gozuru died - and his body became the hills around the island. Benzaiten had it a little bit more difficult than she’d expected. Luckily, it was only a few years before she ran into a crazy lady who called herself a witch while she was traveling around the world. That woman introduced her to Benzaiten’s longest term vice: marijuana.

After that, Benzaiten committed to exploring and sharing the plant with others. At one point, she met a young man named Buddha. Benzaiten spent a lot of time with him, listening to the things he had to say and smoking enough weed to melt the ozone years before the automobile had ever been invented. Though she knew a lot of what he preached was bullshit, she couldn’t help but admit he had some cool ideas. The path to absolute Nirvana? Reincarnation? She was with it - and since those days, she has preached Buddhism wherever possible.

In the last 70s, she found her way to the United States: Engelwood, New Jersey. There, she met a pair of young men named Michael Write and Henry Jackson. She hung out with them for a bit, and it was after a particularly long smoke session that Benzaiten was able to help them work out their [i]flow[/i], and Rapper’s Delight was born.

She loved the music the pair made, and she wandered around the country smoking and working with lots of different hip hop artists over the years, helping them when she could - though some hardly needed her. She became something of a myth in that community; it was said that if you met a woman who talked too much about Buddhism, and smoked with her, you were sure to release a historic album.

In her most recent years, she’s taken up residence in Seattle - traveling to and from for the fruit was starting to become a huge pain in the ass. She can most often be on the beach, in a straw hat, with a pipe in one hand, a beer in the other, and a surfboard tucked under her arm.

Sometimes, she smiles, and wonders if Buddha knows she’s found her personal Nirvana.[/sup][/color][/indent][/hider][/center]
