Ancient Egyptians believed he was the son of the Sun God, Ra while others believed he was the product of infidelity between Osiris and Set's then-wife, Nephthys, who in fear of her husband's wrath should he discover her infidelity, she abandoned Anubis. It was then he was raised by the goddess, Isis, who was said to be known for her maternal benevolence.

It is also said that she named him Anubis and he in turn became her loyal protector.

And who would have known that this would be the truth. 

Indeed, Anubis is the product of a divine affair, yet nothing about it seemed to go against anything that the jackel-headed god believed was meant to be. For centuries, he remained just that: Isis' loyal protector. Over those years, Anubis came to be associated with anything from the dead to embalming to mummification. These domains/responsibilities were, of course, founded in the event of the death of his father, Osiris and the many battles that Anubis had with his Uncle Set, who was determined to completely destroy his brother's body to completely defeat him. Anubis, being the protective dog that he was, warded off his uncle's attempts time after time. Death met neither of them yet he was successful.

After his father was revived and ascended to the throne of the underworld, as payment for his services and loyalty, Anubis himself became a God of the Dead, forever judging and guiding souls into the afterlife should their hearts be pure. This was his destiny and he did his service proud.

[hider=☥][indent][color=8c8280][sup]As Anubis, Guider of Souls woke up from a fall that he didn't remember actually falling, all memory of how he got to where he was blanked out, he woke up in a "chamber" (as he would come to know much, much later) was in a sarcophagus. He woke up, wrapped in layers of linen, hued gold, purple, and black with edges of sienna. Waking up and maneuvering out of the linen was the easy part because Anubis realized, regardless of his state of mind upon waking, had the strength to rip out of the wrapping and push the top of the sarcophagus out of his way.

But that in itself did not help. As he wandered the pyramid, it took him what seemed like hours. His powers, the ones he used to speak to the dead were weaker, so that's why his trek out of where he woke up at wasn't immediately met with an exit. As he exited the pyramid, he realized he was no longer in the underworld. It never donned on him because memories of his own home were very similar to where he woke up. But as he came to understand in the months that followed, he woke up in one of the Great Pyramids of Giza. 

It was interesting to the God of the Dead--no, not God of the dead. He was a Guider of Souls. He found it interesting because he woke up in a place that he often talked about before he woke up in that sarcophagus. And it was, as he surmised in his travels through the land, that the time period he woke up was somewhere in the 4th century. The centuries that would follow, Anubis spent most of his time in Egypt but traveled to the greater African land. When he woke up, he was a lot younger because he did not attend some of the Festivals of Life, often hosted by the Greeks. Not because he didn't wish to, but he had important matters to attend to. He lived peaceful lives throughout Africa: in Kenya, Nigeria, Chad. He went around being a warrior, training his body as well as his mind. He liberated small villages from savages and supposed "liberation armies". It was a fraud and it angered Anubis to the point where he showed those who slaughtered children no mercy.

He would attend the festivals when it suited him and that seemed to be every four years until such a time came when it became yearly. By the time he looked as though he was in his late 40s, he made it a regular thing.

Fast forward to the modern era, to the 21st century. Anubis fights no more. He hadn't since the 60s. He grew weary of the constant wars and bloodshed and instead took time for himself, isolating himself away from the world and becoming a recluse for a couple of decades. Spiritually, Anubis was broken. He was lost and in true despair, so he took up religion - specifically, Buddhism. Traveling the world at this point, he came to find his center and by the 80s (no festival of life was missed in those years), he returned to the world a new man (so to speak). 

With a renewed focus and his inner peace found, he found a home in the Portland, Oregon area where he took it upon himself to finally allow himself to heal others. First, it was starting as a mental health advocate, working at a hospital and at a mental health clinic, then he went a step above and worked at a Mental Health Institute, becoming the #1 psychologist at what was then called Evermore's Mental Institute. 

And forty years later and under his fifth identity in his lifetime, Anubis, known by the name of Darius Amentiu, owns one of the most successful psychology practices in Seattle. His reputation is only second to his, well, philosophy of never taking a patient purely for the money. Whether the court appoints him to a patient, the patient seeks him out, or he is recommended, Darius Amentiu (or Anubis to those of his patients who are of his kind), he will never turn them down. Another reason he has such a good reputation is that he does not have a unique specialty or area of focus. If anything, his focus is on helping his patients. Over his travels, he has seen just about everything anyone can see, so that in itself has given him a worldly experience and perspective that would make him the perfect therapist for anyone with just about any kind of problem.

Though, he does have one rule: be here because you want to, not because someone told you it was your only choice. Anubis doesn't believe in just one choice. Everybody has the opportunity to make any choice they want to. Just follow your heart and it will not disappoint you if it is what you truly want.
