To cope with such a harsh world, she paints a beautiful scene--one befitting of a world as lovely as her dreams. She often uses informal terms of address when talking to people, like dear, deary, darling, love, sweetums, sugar, honey, etc. With her motherly expressionism and lyrical way of speaking, she appears to be someone who others can confide in for advice or shelter. In reality, she's an imperious and ruthless woman. Her sweet and demure words slice through steel; she'll insult you and it will sound poetic. It's not that she lacks empathy, it's just that she doesn't allow it to stop her from performing actions others would question. Isolde's intentions aren't usually malignant in nature, but simply, she has no qualms about doing what she must in order to achieve her personal and professional goals. In some ways, she's like an actress trapped in the mind of an old-timey character. It is this elegant inhumanity that makes her scary. She'll sacrifice you without hesitation and hum a lullaby while doing it. When not in a lab coat, her style is quite opulent: fur coats, heavy jewelry, and luxury heels. [SUB]C H R O N I C L E[/SUB]
Much of Lady Isolde's childhood is a mystery. Of what is known, she was born into an affluent family, a mother who served as head chairman for an energy conglomerate and a father who was a popular film actor. She received the highest education and achieved top marks with her natural intelligence. Some believe that, in her youth, she had an affinity for strange objects and was fond of collecting body parts from underground auctions (which her mother would get for her). But at most, it is understood that she was privileged, sheltered, and spoiled. As a young adult, Isolde married several inner circle affluent men and women over the years, each one dying in mysterious ways and leaving her all the richer--not that she didn't already have money from her familial ties. During those marriages, the ever-widowed Isolde bore two children, Crystal and Marcus. After the comet, Isolde's induction into the UDF was a given--as was law--even for the filthy fortunate and middle-aged 34-year-old women such as her. Inquisitive and a quick learner, Isolde, once again, excelled, especially in the research and science sectors of the organization where she was able to dissect things and learn what makes something tick. She quickly rose up through the ranks thanks to her mental aptitude and cognizance. But despite lady-like pleasantries and intelligence, something seemed off. After she began serving as a lead scientist in the UDF's Research Division, Isolde became utterly possessed by a new idea; to find a cure. In the name of this lifelong goal, it was then that her true cruelty was revealed. She used comet spores stored deep in the classified areas of the Research Division and infected her young daughter with them. Unfortunately, the experiment proved unsuccessful and her daughter died in her teens. Undeterred, she infected her son Marcus and began experimenting on him. Though she did not find a cure, he would survive the infection. Due to her scientific meddling, he would be left seriously disfigured and would eventually need to be fitted with cybernetic appendages (though they granted him enhanced strength). Their relationship is severely strained, as he resents his mother for mutilating him and killing his sister. But alas, he now serves as her bodyguard. Unbeknownst to her, however, he's acting as a double agent and is secretly fighting in an underground resistance affiliation called the LH (The Light of Humanity). They stand against the cruelty of the UDF and the major corporations. He's hoping to find a way to put an end to his mother's cruel experiments. Isolde has no time to grieve or feel regret or have remorse. Her mission remains unchanged. At all costs. [SUB]F O R C E[/SUB]
Main Elements: Dark, Sound, and Aether Main Abilities: Orb, Wave, Projectiles, Vortex Unique Abilities: Fog of Darkness, Dark Moths Weapons wise, Isolde hides a tranquilizer gun on her person at all times. It paralyzes the target and is effective on humans, infected persons, and comet creatures. As an Aeon, the spirits that Isolde possesses are not heavily combat-focused, as she spent most of her time in the Research Division of the UDF. However, her magic has not left her completely defenseless. She can remove the presence of light around her to create utter darkness and then expand it outward to fill the area with this darkness, blinding any being caught within its radius. Isolde's eyes are enhanced, allowing her to see clearly within this area of darkness and it moves with her (as it emanates from around her). So if she moves far enough away from someone, the darkness follows her and the being will be free from its blinding radius. Isolde can feel the presence of anyone caught within her darkness and react accordingly. Creatures with natural night vision or Aeons who also have enhanced sight are essentially immune. Isolde can also shape this darkness into 100 shadowy moth-shaped sprites, which she can control. She can use her shadow moths to pick up and move objects for her. And she can use her enhanced eyes to see through them, allowing her to spy on others and surveillance several locations all at once. However, Isolde cannot use both techniques at the same time. [SUB]F A M E[/SUB]
[sub] CELEBRITY + [/sub] Isolde is easily 'Celebrity +' status; she is recognized across the globe and is equally seen as a villainous member of the aristocracy and as a highly-lauded visionary of the future for her profound research and progress in finding a cure against those infected by stigma. She has the full backing of the UDF (who have aided in spreading her worldwide recognition), but she is also well known for the many "rumors" that have spread about her personal life. She frequently appears in national tabloids, like The Emberletter, and has a cult following of people who hate and love her. She is by far one of the most polarizing figures in the modern world. A wallflower through and through, his role as a Funérailles is incredibly important to him and he has a deep appreciation and connection with life and death and feels that both are very sacred and should not be dishonoured or diminished. He is saddened by the cruelty of the world and his heart weighs heavily with the pain of others. He sometimes has a despondent countenance due to his empathy for the suffering of others (and yet, he has an ever-present wary distrust in others too because of the UDF's inhumanity). He hopes that through his role as a Funérailles, he can bring peace to people's hearts and minds. Because Funérailles are so rare, his role is very precious to the Bellfort citizens, who admire and are grateful for the work that he does in bringing honour and repose to their deceased loved ones. Because of his role as the only Funérailles in the city, they colloquially refer to him as "The Angel of Bellfort". Despite his humble and seemingly docile nature, Peter can be notoriously stubborn when it comes to his beliefs. People often mistake Peter's soft-hearted personality for naivete, but he is deceptively keen and emotionally intelligent. However, there is something about Peter that makes everyone feel like they want to protect him. Peter was born with a rare heart condition that no Aeon magic or doctors have yet been able to cure. Whenever he overexerts himself physically or when using his Aeon magic, his heart begins to hurt (he usually clutches his chest when he's having heart pain). The pain usually goes away in a bit after he stops doing whatever he was doing or when he stops using magic. Becoming emotionally riled up can also trigger these heart pains. [SUB]C H R O N I C L E[/SUB]
Death is a fascinating phenomenon. The one and only thing that is guaranteed in this world. It's all around us even when we may not notice it. Each day that passes, it beckons for us, sings it's siren song to drag us into the depths. And there are those in this world who come face to face with it. These people are what this world calls, Funérailles. The role of a Funérailles is a peculiar profession and those who become one don't usually live their lives hoping to be such. For most, it chose them. The Funérailles oversee and perform a cultural custom called Mer de rêves (The Sea of Dreams). The underwater burials originate from the island of Freidal, a nation isolated from the mainland, and therefore, retains its historical European-like architecture and Old World religious beliefs. "There is nothing more honourable in this world than a proper burial." Most Funérailles eventually leave Freidal and live their entire lives on tiny indiscriminate islands, most of which fell under UDF jurisdiction after the comet. And aside from the regular UDF research division personnel and intelligence division operatives who sentinel these small islands, a Funérailles's interactions usually only occur when people from the mainland bring them the dead bodies of their loved ones, escorted by UDF operatives of course. Upon being brought the dead, a Funérailles will perform the funeral rites or Mer de rêves on the body and bury the body at sea, along with a Mementeau, an object that represents that individual's life and dreams. And in the act of burying the body with the Mementau, that person's soul can finally find peace now that their dreams have been released to the sea. "Freed...from the chaos..." These underwater burials spawned from the Old World Religions of Friedal and were closely tied to the Festival of the Quiet (a festival of remembrance for deceased loved ones). They are now highly regulated by the UDF. To have a loved one's remains cast to the depths of the sea by a Funérailles continues to be a great honour and way of showing respect to the dead for citizens of Freidal Island and mainland coastal cities along Ansel Pass and the Lake of Sauraine. The UDF understands the value and significance of such a custom and only allow it to citizens who have a clean record and haven't caused any trouble for the UDF leaders. They see it as a way of controlling the masses. People are less likely to misbehave if they know they will lose this valued privilege, which to the UDF, Mer de rêves is a privilege for submission. It is much more honorable than having your loved ones body thrown into a giant heat vac and burned with hundreds of other random bodies. "We must do what we can to preserve the humanity of people, even for the dead". Peter was born on the island of Freidal, his parents having been jailed for treason by the UDF. Peter was very young when this occurred (so he has little to no memories of his parents, who are still in prison). He lived with his grandparents thereafter (eventually being forced like all the islanders into mandatory UDF training camps once the comet struck). While training as a combat medic for the UDF, he began performing Mer de rêves since the role had been passed down to him by his grandmother. One can only become an official Funérailles if the teachings were directly taught and passed down to them by another Funérailles, hence why it is such an uncommon profession you can't just simply go to school for. "I never chose to be a Funérailles, it chose me, and I will continue to do what I must with dignity and respect, if only for those who can no longer do so for themselves. That is the only reason why I am here." A Funérailles can be identified by the "Mark of the Funérailles", which is a pair of symbols engraved into the palms of their hands by a much more experienced Funérailles. At some point, the UDF relocated Peter to Bellfort where he would work as a combat medic and continue performing the Mer de rêves from a highly regulated UDF compound by Sauraine lake. This is where he has remained since. He's never been within the inner city of Bellfort though since the UDF prohibited him from leaving the Sauraine Lake Compound (aside from his combat medic duties). They believed that isolating him from the general public made him more enigmatic and mystical for the Bellfort citizens (typical Aeon public perception control measures by the UDF). [SUB]F O R C E[/SUB]
Main elements: Aether, Light, and Air. Main Abilities: Orb, Barrier, 'Healing', Projectiles, Wave Unique Abilities: Light Arrows, Wings of Light, Sleep Magic, Enhance 'Sword and Shield' with Light As an Aeon, the spirits that came to Peter allowed him to create glowing light from his hands, which he can use to nullify pain and heal the wounds of others through touch. He can also form this energy into wings of light on his back, allowing him to fly for short periods of time. With a flick of his wrist, he can release a spritz of glittering golden sparkles at a target, putting them to sleep. For a wider effect, he can release a barrage of glittering golden bubbles that can put multiple targets to sleep in an area. Peter can surround himself in a bubble of glittering light and use it as a forcefield to shield himself and others from assault. When taking on a more combat role, Peter is a sub-average fighter and is more of a support long-ranged combat operative. In ranged combat, Peter has a crossbow that he can equip with his Aeon magical energy to shoot piercing arrows of light. In close combat, he uses a traditional Freidalian sword and shield (he fights like an Old World European-esque knight). He can imbue his sword and shield with his glittering light to make them more effective. [SUB]F A M E[/SUB]
[sub] FAMILIAR HERO [/sub] As a Funérailles, he has 'Hero' status on the Island of Freidal and in many of the coastal cities. The funeral rites he provides are highly regarded across these cities and is sacred for many people. Not to mention, the UDF have used him in this sort of "prince locked in the highest tower" kind of way to amplify his mystique and "otherness". However, in other parts of the world far from the coasts, he is more of a 'Familiar' figure that people may not be so knowledgeable of, as they are less likely to travel to Bellfort for his highly UDF-regulated services.
