Ame no Uzume was and still is to this day, a faithful servent of Amaterasu. She is the Goddess of the Dawn, so when her mistriss was sad, Uzume felt that pain and that extended into the great shame her mistress made. Because of this, all the Kami tried anything and everything they could think of to bring Amaterasu out of her seclusion, but nothing worked. Nothing seemed to be a good enough reason to force her out of hiding.

That is, at least, until an idea came to Uzume. An idea that only she could come up with. You see, Ame no Uzume may have indeed been the jovial goddess of the dawn, but she was also the mother of the arts, a creator of dancing and theater and comedy, concepts that eventually came to be known as Kagura and the ancient noh. Being so clever and obviously an amazing and creative kami, Uzume danced. She danced bearing nothing but her natural form. All the Kami laughed. They laughed so much that the sounds of joy and amusement reached the cave that had been sealed by a rock. The rock soon flung open as Amaterasu, who was no doubt curious, had also laughed.

And in a series of moments, all was right again. Amaterasu saw her reflection in a mirror that Uzume herself had erected. While she herself was distracted, the other Kami bound the mouth of the cave with shimenawa so the sun would never leave this world again.

Thus the day was saved, thanks to the Great Shining Goddess, Uzume!

She needed excitement past what her current life had afforded her. Sure, you could spin that being surrounded by her children, with her husband, and serving her mistress, it was all very flashy and should have given her the excitement that she needed to sustain her constant need for fresh entertainment.

So maybe that's why one day when she woke up in a field of sunflowers, somewhere outside of Kyoto, during the late 1600s, first the Goddess of the Dawn was confused. How did she get here? Where was she? All she could remember was waking up, wearing a floral kimono, and starting to wander the lands. Eventually, she reached Kyoto. She found herself getting absorbed into the land. It was coming back to her. Not how she wound up in that field, no that seemed to still be a mystery, but the land and where she was. The century remained a mystery, but Uzume was in Kyoto, Japan. She wasn't in the Takamagahara anymore.

So in these centuries, she got lost in it. But lost in a good way. Lost in a way that made her truly appreciate life and she had nonstop adventures. For decades that came after one another, establishing herself as a myth. Adding to Ame no Uzume's name. She wasn't a divine kami anymore, but she still had powers. And to those who knew her - aka those from the clan that she and her husband (ex-husband now) founded: the Sarume Clan. They evolved through the times. Going from arts to samurai to protection to farming. And all of this continued into modern days. 

After centuries of losing contact and not knowing where her mistress was, Uzume was reunited with Amaterasu at some point after World War Two. Ever since then, she never left her lady's side. She followed her anywhere and served her in whatever way she needed.

In modern times, when she's not serving as head of PR and occasional personal assistant to Amaterasu for her tech company, Taiyo Kai, Uzume, under the clever name of Kaguya Okame, she indulges in fun that also pays. Doesn't matter where she might be, Uzume works as an escort. She's also been known to strip, which funny enough there's a place in Seattle that is the meld of both of her side passions.
