I hope he pleases. He is tall and slightly imposing, although his limbs are thin and his muscles lack the tonality of an athlete. Standing at about 6'7" (or roughly 200cm), Devlin often looks wraithlike as he typically wears long dark coats, a wide brimmed hat and a porcelain mask that serves to cover his facial disfigurement. His skin is pale; a result of his bonding and reclusiveness. Were he to disrobe, one would see a thin, white hairless body decorated in black, branching veins. Were one to remove his mask, the regret would be almost instantaneous. Personality: Devlin's personality could be described as borderline bipolar. There will be moments when he is quiet, introspective, introverted and calculative. And, yet, there are other times when he is just the opposite: sarcastic, jovial, humorous and full of zest. The switch often depends on his level of adrenaline or sobriety. The mild mannered, sober Devlin is a far cry different than the Devlin you'll meet in battle or after imbibement. Abilities/Powers: Tendril Generation Devlin has the ability to generate black tendrils from his body that can serve a variety of applications. Offensively, the tendrils can be used bluntly to bludgeon a foe or the tips can be focused and hardened like the tip of a needle to puncture an enemy. Defensively, they can be used to protect Devlin in a manner similar to a boxer covering his body with his raised fists; the tendrils can cover Devlin as a form of protection, though the effectiveness of the protection is hardly impenetrable. Additionally, these tendrils can aid Devlin's movement, allowing him to climb heights he otherwise wouldn't be able to or to traverse distances at speeds beyond his natural legs' capabilities. Each tendril can stretch out as far as 25 ft (or 7.62 meters) and the number of tendrils he can generate at once is indefinite. While the tendrils do not immediately heal from damage in real time, a damaged tendril can be recalled and a new, fresh tendril can be produced to take its place. Any damage taken by the tendrils are felt by Devlin in a similar manner as he would feel if any of his other appendages were harmed. Weaknesses/Vulnerabilities: Human Core Physiology Tendrils or not, Devlin is still wholly reliant on his skills and training to be effective in combat and to survive. His ability does not make his core body any less fragile than it was before the bonding process. In concept, he's just a humans with extra limbs that he can call upon and therefore has all the same physical vulnerabilities. Warped Psychology Devlin isn't exactly a loose cannon, but in the heat of battle his adrenaline can raise exponentially which, in turn, leads him react in a far less predictable manner as his endorphins send him into a state of chaotic glee. Once in this state, his actions become less calculated and more instinctual which can, at times, be a boon. His resting psyche isn't much less fractured. Often appearing stoic and uninterested, Devil has historically found it particularly challenging to gain trust and kinship, even from fellow guardians. Specialized Equipment: While Devlin's ability certainly has its uses, if an enemy were to get within close combat range, Devlin would potentially lose his advantage. It is because of this that he keeps twin barong machetes on his person. Additionally, Devlin's experience as a chemist has led to several formulas and concoctions that produce varying results. The inside of his overcoat is lined with several pockets, many of which house vials of useful ingredients or cocktails capable of chemical or medicinal reactions. Biography: Popular, handsome, respected, the life of the party... Devlin was a man who thrived in any social circle that he stepped in. A chemist by trade, Devlin was very smart and inquisitive as he tried to find creative solutions to the world's Abomination problem. A naturally gifted academic, Devlin soared through medical training, earning his degree and immediately putting his training to work to help with the frightful foes that has made our world their own. His various experiments had mixed results across the board and led Devlin to the only true conclusion: To help understand how to end the Abominations and harness the power of respite, he would have to risk everything and go all in. He submitted himself to The Bonding in order to become a Guardian and get a more intimate understanding of the alien presences. Though he survived the process, it came at a cost. His mood had changed, his body had morphed and his face... his face had been ruined. Horror, shame and determination motivated Devlin to keep going. If it wasn't for the protection of mankind, it was for his own personal vengeance against the monsters. Though parts of his scientific mind remained intact, his base psychology was forever changed. He was a monster now, just like them and he would punish the Abominations for it until his dying breath.
