Getting into Crystal Peak has been what my life has revolved around for as long as I can remember… so, you’d think I’d ace it, right? I got a 65%. Please don’t tell my mom.” || While Mr. Stroud’s essay answers on history leave something to be desired, and his problem solving methods aren’t always what we would consider ‘ideal,’ it’s notable that he excelled in the leadership and morality parts of the exam. || Practical test || “I guess this test is different for everyone. I thought it was going to be like… ‘show us your power!’ type of experience, but it wasn’t. The teacher and I did some weird game where they played bad guys, and I had to stop them and protect some civilians. They laughed at me when I tried to talk them down.” || After reading his written test and essay, it’s a lot less surprising that Mr. Stroud attempted to talk the ‘villains’ in his scenario down from their plots of evil. He managed to hold them at bay and attempt his conversation for a good six minutes before the risk to civilians was too great, and he put a stop to it. Admirable young man. || Written essay topic || “It’s kind of personal, isn’t it?” || Mr. Stroud’s essay details an encounter he had with a person in New York City. Though powerless, Mr. Stroud describes this person as one of his biggest role models, and talks about how most of the world’s heroes could learn a thing or two from him. || Video supplement || “I really have to do this part? This seems a little… uhm, pretentious?” Michael Stroud stares into the camera in what appears to be his bedroom. There’s a long pause, as the clearly exasperated young man tries to find the words he wants to say. How does one sell themselves to a college as prestigious as Crystal Peak? He should have written a script. Eventually, he speaks. “...I just want to help people.” Another pause, this one more brief. He relies too heavily on his natural powers and isn’t refined. Additionally, his mind isn’t exactly well fortified against psychic attacks. His super senses are often more of a hindrance than a boon; his super hearing can make it hard for him to concentrate — and picking out what noises he wants to hear vs doesn’t can be quite difficult at times, and loud noises can stunlock him somewhat. Adjusting to different levels of brightness can take longer Finally, and perhaps most importantly: he is deathly allergic to peaches. Being in too close of proximity to one can cause his powers to falter and him to lose his abilities. Consuming one could be fatal - he’s only had one in his entire life, and his parents thought they’d lost him that day. He has been raised to be humble, gentle, and selfless person. For as long as he can remember, he’s been taught that his powers make him different but not better than other people. Resolutely noble, Michael has a strong sense of justice and right and wrong. He believes that there is good in every heart, and that it is up to the individual to better themselves to better everyone else around them. He holds himself to an extremely high standard, and he uses his powers to help other people because it is the right thing to do. Beneath that, though? Michael is naive. He believes so strongly in his own values that he simply takes the rest of the world at face value, and believes everyone - especially his fellow Supes - hold the same values as close to heart as he does. He is a deeply trusting person, and easy to take advantage of. Michael is also surprisingly sheltered, given the life he’s lived so far. It was important to both of his parents that he not be exposed to certain parts of the world, and while it’s worked, it remains to be seen how he will handle the world on his own. There is a lot of pressure riding on his shoulders, as he’s been told for a long time by his family that he is going to be the greatest superhero the world has ever seen. The stress of living up to that expectation often keeps him up at night.
F E A R S
That he won’t be able to live up to the heavy expectations laid on his shoulders. He had been taken away from his family by the company when they learned that he had manifested powers out of nowhere. Born to parents who were nothing, the young child had no right to power in the eyes of Cashmore Global, and they were going to find out how he’d gotten them. Shortly after he was removed from his parents, his parents were killed in a tragic car accident, and his birth certificate and other information about his family was ‘lost’ in an office move. Essentially, Cashmore Global had their perfect science experiment. This lasted only eight months, until Sentinel heard about the experimentation being done. Sentinel wouldn’t stand for it, and he was a tough man to bargain with. By the end of that very same day, the baby was coming home with him. By the end of the week, he was adopted and named Michael Stroud. Sentinel would take it upon himself to train the child. Cashmore had agreed, so long as they were allowed weekly sessions with the boy to learn about his growth. From a very young age, Michael spent long hours training not just with Sentinel, but the other seven members of the Coalition. It wasn’t until he was about twelve that his father told him he wanted him to become the greatest superhero in history. Even back then, Nathaniel seemed to believe that his young son had the power and the potential to save everyone. Michael was a dedicated Boy Scout through all of his youth, and became an Eagle Scout before graduating. His father suggested it when he was younger as a way to hopefully instill good values in him, and Michael took to it very naturally. After graduating high school, his college of choice had practically already been picked for him: Crystal Peak Academy. Before he went to the Academy though, Sentinel had pulled some strings to make it legally acceptable for Michael to work with him and his team - on smaller missions of course. Taking a year-long sabbatical, Michael got a feel for heroing and the backstage politics of it. After a year of working at it, Michael already knows he hates that part of the job, and he hopes to find a way that he can work on his own, though he knows his father dreams of him being on the Coalition.
[sub]
⋙:A N Y T H I N G E L S E
[/sub]____________________________________________________________________
Logan Shroyer, 89cff0

Michael enjoys camping
Michael struggles with sleeping.
