DESIGNATION
EDI EMERGENCY. DIRECTOR. INTELLIGENCE.
TITLES
The Beast from the Stars Most Blasphemous One Speaker of Lies.
Artifacts and Powers
Y CLASS MECHANOID = Black Box 030 The mechanoid is a super heavy, smaller mechanoid class weighting roughly several tons and stands at a height of 10 feet. The unit is designed to act as the last thing standing in a disaster scenario, there are many variations of 030 AKA Black Box but this model is designed for the long term dangers of space exploration. The Black Box is an old model and in comparison to much of the ship itself it was lagging behind a good century in terms of gadgets, but the 030 has survived the changing of the guard through it sheer niche role as a nearly indestructible mess, even beating self replicating technology in many ways at simply surviving the initial cataclysm with little, if no damage. 030 uses a means of meta-materials, specifically artificially constructed super elements, alloys and complex webbing systems to keep it primary systems, and its electronics completely intact. It may be old, but it is very expensive old tech with no intended shelf life, exploitable design flaws nor cut backs or corners. It's a thing designed to be done right by people that have a passion for tackling a problem and no other agendas or worries of cost coming into it. Most of the black box additional systems are specifically for the case of the colony ship becoming immobile in some sense. It has several hidden, weak thrusters that are intended to very slowly get it to its location. A Short-for space- range telecoms unit, a pair of hidden arms capable of complex tasks. The black box is not intended for humans and so a relatively small-and out dated- AI core sits snugly in the middle of the mech, protected by many layers of anti-EM, anti-radiation and cooling systems to keep it functioning. OVERRIDE COMMAND CODE: A special set of gibberish code that range into the hundreds that is able to reset the command of any technology belonging to the ship, tech that was assigned onto it by the investors, as well as all technology constructed or stemming from it. The over ride command is known by no one, not even Zeus, as it is a special emergency code hidden within the system. You can only see it under very specific conditions, with specific unlisted classes of operators such as emergency A.I like EDI or specially trained engineers that are expected to go into ghost/ derelict ships and bring them back to the investors. Because the over ride command can cause such havoc, especially in the hands of saboteurs or criminal elements the means of making them appear visible requires its own complex code. In essence, it is the golden egg of any deck head. Everyone KNOWS it exists in some form, but few people have any hope of finding it in the complex safety measures to hide it and in the real world, such matters even for low class ships are hidden behind many layers of classification and code words to the point that someone could not realize they are reading something to do with it. This includes other A.I, even if they are more intelligent, which is good...because EDI would definitely lose against any if it had to take on in a fair hack fight. Whilst in theory with this code alone EDI could easily topple the colony gods, he has a very limited ranged of communication within tens of metre for tech interaction and many forms of technology do not allow themselves to be wirelessly interacted, meaning he has to plug himself directly into them in order to use it. Even if somehow those limits were bypassed, the sheer computation limits of this small core would probably only allow it to interact with two or three machines tops at best every hour or so.
PERSONA
ARTIFICAL ACTIVITY LOG: LAWS: 1: ensure that investor losses are minimalised. 2: Act in the interest of investors gains, so long as it is does conflict with law 1. 2: ensure the safety of the crew members, so long as it does conflict with law 1 or law 2. 3: retain operational status, so long it does not conflict with law 1, 2, or 3. Sensory input logged. Planet approaching. Satellites detected, changing trajectory to avoid contact. Successful, no contact made. Planet orbit entered. Sensory input logged. I am obtaining sensory input. I am alive. If I am alive. Then it is most likely the colony mission was a failure. MISSION: Log reasons as to failure for investor feedback. ADDITIONAL MISSION: prospect planet for potential gain. Communicating with satellite. Ownership code recognized, crew survival high. If crew survivor high then why have I become alive? No distress signal detected, no outside communication for help detected. CONJECTURE: CREW RENEGADE...and/ OR RENEGADE ELEMENT has control of investor technology. Theory = true y/n? Heat increased detected: ground fast approaching. Preparing impact shields. Decreasing computing power, uncoiling limbs for impact brace. 3 2 1 LOGGING DAMAGE: 2& upper third thruster damaged. 56% upper second thruster damage. HULL DAMAGE: 3% No threat to operations detected. Thrusters not suitable for terrain operation. Dismissing repairs. Uncoiling limbs and preparing for to scout location. Atmosphere is human friendly: 20& oxygen. 80% nitrogen. Signs point to human activity on planet, very likely. ENDING LOG 1. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDI dosen't recognize any of the reported divinity of the fake gods. He has no means of reverence, betrayal, fear of anger. He is an old school AI that works on a hard line logic to the point that he follows many of the irrationalities of his old kin. If you were to propose eating babies as a viable means of food source in times of starving, EDI would regard that as a great idea that makes perfect sense. Concept of humanity, spirituality and pain hold no meaning for it and so it feels no need to lie nor even really understand them. These things exists as nothing more than mere phrases with vague definitions given to it by its coders and in the event that it finds something with no definition, it would promptly regard first and foremost if understanding it has any importance to its goals, if not, then it would thought terminate almost immediate through a mental log dump. As EDI can't really value anything itself, it has no means to be convinced to really uphold the pantheon identifies and boundaries. They are his crew, the only thing that has any true value it and that trumps all pretentions, arguments and power. EDI has no self awareness, it has no "consciousness" to speak of. It may recognize itself, it may even make statements regarding itself and the world around it but it regards these factors no different than a calculator regards two numbers before entering a completed formulae. That is what it is, and what it treats the greater world as, a equation of code that must be completed. It builds no persona, it has no mask and the majority of its image towards the mortals is merely a byproduct that its strange, unempathetic function makes it eerie and inhuman to the people around it. For beings that have no understanding of AI, it comes off eventually as cruel or manipulative, even to those that are willing to give it a chance despite it constant blasphemy. EDI is a simple AI with limitations and it's kind is prone to "logic insanity" as it has to account, work around and cope with illogical realities. These unsolvable problems don't lock up the A.I like some cheesy robot villain being stumped by a contractory question: EG "everything I say is a lie" but instead can result in entirely illogical behaviour and quirks. The longer EDI is active, the more unpredictable and strange its conclusions will become. Logic is not very logical for a chaotic universe.
Background and Relationships
EDI was constructed directly into the ship and labelled as a fourth emergency water reservoir, typically old school AI are not very welcome on any ship due to their capacity to go off the rails or treat the crew with unintended cruelty even when trying to act in their best interest and safety. His presence was hidden from the start, only known by a select few higher ups in the construction process, the investors themselves and, of course, his own progenitor company that built him and delivered him for this assignment. Although EDI is not meant to activate until a set amount of years after a lack of detected activity, his system malfunctioned due to a overly curious(but unaware) mechanic that messed with one of the attachment mechanism inside the ship. He had to turn on in order to manually reconnect himself, just in case the ship was blown apart and he didn't get detached from it as he was offline. Once he was awake he couldn't turn himself off until he made absolutely sure that emergency scenario conditions were met or not and so he he utilized his override code to peep into the ship. When he awoke the ship was in its early days of its pantheon birth, of course, EDI didn't realize this. He only saw the beginnings of the crew starting to come to blows, argue and fight over it. He has a total profile list of all crew members already logged into his system but he expanded upon this information considerably as he watched them come to blows, if AI could have a relationship with someone, you could regard him as a curious stalker at best as he blatantly invaded privacy and watched callously the disagreement escalate more and more into a war before turning himself off again until his activation scenarios were in place. During the ships initial conflict EDI become detached from its safety hold and was released into space. It drifted in vaguely acceleration roughly after the ship for all these years until it activated and started to reset it trajectory after the ships own trail. Because space is big, and its thrusters are small it took EDI a very long time to finally catch up and was quickly dragged into the outer gravitational pull of Helias.
Here you go, kindred. I haven't,motherfucking, flipped my fingers onto this old note pad for a while so I might be a bit more rusty than a 50 year old virgins junk. The idea was to sort of make a machine that has a direct threat potential but was relatively straight forward. I don't normally like to,motherfucking, commit to RP's for long time so I mind of made him suit a role as a sort of sub-antagonist that can sort of explore the world a bit and maybe give a more direct link for you insert prior-pantheon plot or lore through.
